Driver arraigned for allegedly assaulting woman

A 35-year-old driver, Ibrahim Adeyemi, on Monday appeared before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State for allegedly assaulting a woman and causing her bodily harm.

Adeyemi, who resides at Alhaji Amoo Street, Ojota, Lagos is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and assault occasioning harm.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, Insp Donjour Perezi, told the court that the defendant committed the offences with his wife still at large.

Perezi submitted that the couple committed the offences on Feb. 3 at 5.30 p.m., on Alhaji Amoo Street, Ojota.

Perezi told the court the defendant’s wife entered into the room of their neighbour and the complainant, Mrs Motunrayo Fagbohun, and attacked her with a kitchen knife.

He said that Fagbohun attempted to escape but the defendant, in a bit to defend his wife, joined hands with her to beat up the complainant following a misunderstanding.

“The defendant beat the complainant black and blue to the extent her right eye was swollen and covered with blood and bruises.

“She couldn’t see with it as a result of the swelling.

“Her body was red and swollen as a result of the beating she got from the defendant and his wife, who used sticks to beat her up,” Insp Perezi told the court.

He said that the offences contravened Sections 173 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015.

The Magistrate, Mrs O. A. Daodu, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 and two sureties in like sum.

She ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and be gainfully employed.

Daodu adjourned the case until Feb. 28 for mention. (NAN)
