Ebola: Lagos bans Transportation of Corpses from DRC (Independent)

Following the new outbreak of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Dr. Jide Idris, the Commissioner for Health in Lagos State, said embargo has also been placed on transportation of corpses from DRC, even as he disclosed that all Ebola care centres in Lagos has been reactivated as part of measures to prevent possible disease reemergence. This is just as Idris appealed to striking health workers to consider the plight of patients and return to work, saying at this time there was possibility of the outbreak of viral haemmorhargic fever (VHF) in the country. Lagos APC to adopt consensus candidate today (Guardian)

The Lagos State chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC) may adopt consensus candidates at its State congress scheduled to elect the executive members today. According to reliable sources, the leadership of the party in Lagos has agreed on those whose names are to be ratified as state executive in the state congress. As at this morning, some of the names being touted as executive members include former Commissioner for Hone Affairs, Mr. Tunde Balogun, who is being tipped to replace the incumbent state chairman, Otunba Henry Ajomale while Chief Sunny Ajose is tipped as the deputy state chairman. The CLI is managed by Visionscape, a private foreign environmental entity brought by the state government when the project commenced in 2017. Part of the functions of Visionscape was to streamline and harmonize the waste collection system through the deployment of modern technologies.But the Private Sector Participant (PSP) operators who have been in charge of the system kicked against the CLI programme which, according to them, seeks to exclude them from the programme of waste management and ultimately deny them their means of livelihood. The governor of Lagos State, Akinwunmi Ambode has called on Christians to obtain their Permanent Voters Cards (PVC) and ensure that they vote credible Nigerians in the forthcoming general elections in 2019. ALL Progressives Congress (APC) chieftains in Isolo Local Government Area of Lagos State yesterday reaffirmed the results of the ward and council congresses, saying that the exercises were validly held. The party leaders thanked Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the party chairman, Otunba Oladele Ajomale, the Osolo of Isolo, Oba Kabiru Agbabiaka Ilufemiloye, and the outgoing party chairman in the local government, Alhaji Waheed Raji, for providing a conducive atmosphere for the exercise. Over 6,000 benefit from Lagos free medical mission (Independent)

No fewer than 6,072 residents of Ajeromi Local Government and Ifelodun Local Council Development Area of Lagos have benefitted from a three-day State sponsored free medical exercise, Dr. Jide Idris, the Lagos State Commissioner for Health, has said. Tagged as ‘The Eko Health Mission Programme’ the exercise was held between Tuesday 15 and Thursday 17 May, Idris said.The Commissioner, who made this known Friday, at a news conference in Alausa, Ikeja, explained that residents of the areas benefitted from wide range of free health services including consultation and treatment for common ailments. Firm to employ 350 Lagos government employability support project trainees (Guardian)

Over 350 graduates of the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF) Employability Support Project, who completed an eight-week intensive training exercise, are to be employed by Dangote Group. Executive Secretary of LSETF, Akintunde Oyebode, who disclosed this, yesterday, commended Dangote Group and other partners for the gesture, explaining that the Project was providing a viable platform to bridge the gap of shortage of skilled and employable labour required to fill the needs of the job market. “Manpower skills gap remains a significant issue for businesses operating in the state and we are pleased to see that world-class brands are satisfied with the quality of our trainees and the scheme in general. NSE to lift suspension on trading of Ikeja Hotel shares on Monday (Guardian)

Succor may have come the way of shareholders of Ikeja Hotel Plc, as the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE), yesterday announced plans to lift the two years suspension on the shares of the company on Monday, May 21. The NSE had on November 10, 2016 suspended trading on the shares of the hotel following the continued dispute among the major shareholders.According to the NSE, the suspension, which is pursuant to the Provisions of Rule 15.45 of its Rulebook, is to safeguard shareholders of the company as the dispute has negatively impacted the company’s governance structure. Ikeja Hotels Plc, which owns Lagos Sheraton Hotel, has been involved in a boardroom crisis, a development that led to some of the shareholders removing its chairman, Mr. Goodie Ibru early 2015 at an Extra-ordinary General Meeting (EGM). Lagos State Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Cooperatives has lamented inadequate infrastructure at port. Its Commissioner, Mrs. Olayinka Oladunjoye, explained that the inadequate port infrastructure has largely reduced the country’s ability to harness the full potential inherent in the maritime industry. Oladunjoye, who called for investments in ports and terminals at the Lagos Maritime Week, also sought cargo handling equipment, channels and harbours, warehouses, vessel repair and ship building yards, port access roads, intermodal transport, ICT, deep seaport, power and water. Auto mechanic faces trial over alleged theft of customer’s car parts (Guardian)

An auto mechanic, Wale Ojo, 42, who allegedly damaged and stole some parts from his customer’s car, yesterday, appeared before an Epe Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State. Ojo, who resides at Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of stealing and criminal damage to property. He was accused of stealing and destroying some parts worth N145, 000 from his customer’s car. The Police Prosecutor, Moses Oyekanmi, told the court that the accused committed the offences sometime in February this year at Majek area of Ibeju-Lekki. Read more
