Eddie Murphy set to return to stand-up comedy with ‘£56 million’ Netflix deal (Metro)

Eddie Murphy hasn’t done a stand-up set in years, but the comedian is looking to be on the verge of signing a deal with Netflix for a series of specials – set to earn him around £56 million.

According to TMZ, sources close to Eddie say Netflix are keen to sign him up for an undisclosed amount of comedy specials, and the deal is said to be around $70 million (£56 million).

Although the figure seems sky-high to us mere mortals, the sum isn’t far off what other top comedians have secured for similar deals – Netflix bagged Dave Chappelle for three stand-up specials for $60 million (£48 million) and Chris Rock got $40 million (£32 million) for doing two shows.

Eddie has also confirmed earlier this year that the sequel to his 1988 hit film Coming To America will be released next year – so he’s not going to be short on cash this year, by the looks of his projects. Read more
