EFCC nabs 36 suspected Internet fraudsters in Lagos (Punch)
Operatives of the Lagos zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission have arrested 36 suspected Internet fraudsters in various parts of Lagos State.
A statement by the anti-graft agency’s Head of Media and Publicity, Wilson Uwujaren, said the suspects were arrested in different sting operations by the operatives at Eastern Gorilla, Eko Atlantic, on May 7, 2021; Alogba Estate, Ebute, Ikorodu, on May 19, 2021; and United Estate, Sangotedo, on May 21, 2021, following credible intelligence about their alleged involvement in computer-related fraud.
The statement read in part, “The suspects are Segun Abiola, Gabriel Ebube, Amoo Tunmise, Anidugbe Mofoluwatu, Victor Enuesike, Precious Godwin, Oluwaseun Afolabi, Tolulpoe Amos, Jane Egonu and Precious Anizoba.
“They include Abayomi Timileyin Olanrewaju, Adekunle Dipo Oshunsanya, Tang Jude, Ejobi Peter Prince, Kuti Adebayo, Fagbemi Michael, Salau Oluwasegun, Bello Adebayo Azeez, Lare Awoniyi David, Damilare Kahinde Sikiru, Jayesimi and Samson Ismaila. Read more
Police re-arrest fleeing inmate for stealing SIM card in Lagos (Nation)
The Police Command in Lagos said it had rearrested one Oyemachi Maduabuchi who escaped from the Owerri Correctional Centre in Imo.
According to a statement signed by the Police Spokesperson in Lagos, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Maduabuchi, who escaped after a jailbreak on April 5, was re-arrested on April 23, in Lagos.
Adejobi said Maduabuchi fled Owerri the same day and moved to his village, Fegge in Onitsha, Anambra, to meet his mother who later linked him up with his elder sister, Amarachi of Customs Bus Stop Ijegun Lagos.
He said that the said sister later invited him to Lagos on April 19. Read more
2 feared dead, many injured as APC primary turns bloody in Lagos (DailyTrust)
The All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries for the forthcoming local government election in Lagos State turned bloody in parts of the state on Saturday with two people allegedly killed in Surulere Local Government Area.
Several people were also injured in many local government areas, including Shomolu, Alimosho, Ejigbo, among others when thugs disrupted the exercise.
Daily Trust reports that there has been tension in the state over the primary election for the 57 chairmanship candidates and 377 councillorship candidates of the ruling party.
Some party members are alleging imposition of candidates by party leaders.
In Surulere, it was gathered that suspected political thugs and cultists had a free day during the exercise leading to attacks on electoral officials. Read more
“Yahoo Boy” nabbed trying to buy N44m Range Rover with Bitcoin (Nation)
The Lagos Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested eight internet fraudsters, one of whom allegedly tried to buy a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) worth 44 Million with Bitcoin.
The Nation learnt that Tobiloba Aramide Ogundiyan was accused by EFCC’s Advance Fee Fraud Section of committing online fraud and converting his loot to the cryptocurrency.
An EFCC source said Ogundiyan “acquired his ill-gotten wealth from internet fraud, layered it into a Bitcoin account and finally integrated it by approaching a car shop owner in Lekki to purchase a Range Rover Vela P380 2018 model worth N44,000,000 ($97,626 USD in Bitcoin) sometime in March 2021”. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Lagos Zonal Office, has arrested eight suspected internet fraudsters, one of whom allegedly attempted to pay for a Sports Utility Vehicle worth N44m in Bitcoin.
Our correspondent learnt that one of the suspects, Tobiloba Ogundiyan, has been accused by the EFCC of committing online fraud and converting his loot to cryptocurrency.

Police impound 70 Okadas, declare fresh clampdown on Lagos errant riders (Punch)
The Lagos State Police Command has said it impounded 70 motorcycles during a raid on motorcyclists plying restricted routes in the state.
No fewer than 19 suspected cultists were said to have also been arrested by men of the command during separate raids on the Somolu and Bariga areas of the state.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Muyiwa Adejobi, said the motorcycles were impounded during a clampdown on erring motorcyclists in the state, adding that the command deemed it necessary to embark on the enforcement to sanitise the affected areas.
Adejobi said, “In furtherance of the restriction order on the operation of motorcycles, popularly called Okada, in the six local government areas of Lagos State, the state police command has constituted a special squad to embark on massive arrest of Okada operators who violate the restriction order while their motorcycles are being impounded. Customs intercepts fake drugs, rakes in N426m at Lagos port (Leadership)
The Comptroller-General, Strike Force Unit of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), on Wednesday, said it intercepted unregistered and fake drugs imported into the country through the nation’s seaport.
Speaking to LEADERSHIP, the coordinator of the unit, Deputy Comptroller, Ahmadu Shuaibu, said the unit also recovered N426.4million as debut note collected on cargoes that were under-declared at the seaport.
According to him, also impounded were supermarket goods, smuggled foreign parboiled rice among other smuggled items intercepted by the unit.
He said, “sequel to conscientious documentary checks, the ICT component of the team recovered the sum of N426.4 million from demand notices (DN) raised with within April till yesterday. The money recovered from demand notices could have been lost to unscrupulous importers.” Read more
Lagos seals Chinese firm over worker’s death (Guardian)
Lagos State government has sealed a Chinese firm, Mingy Trading Company Limited, located at No 11, Ila Orangun Street, Ijegun-Egba, Satellite Town.
The action followed a visit by the Lagos State Safety Commission as a result of reported death of one Babatunde AbdulRahmon, a 17-year-old, on his resumption day.
Director General of the commission, Mr. Lanre Mojola, said the sealing of the firm was an affirmation of the state’s commitment to safety of life and property.
He disclosed that the fatality occurred due to violation of safety precautionary measures because the firm exposed the victim to mechanical and electrical manufacturing equipment without training and provision for personal protective equipment. Read more
