Ekiti goes tough on sex offenders (Punch)

Ekiti State Government has said it will henceforth conduct compulsory psychiatrist test on sex offenders in addition to publishing names and photographs of convicts on websites and their home communities.

The state Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Wale Fapohunda, harped on the need for proactive actions to nip the situation in the bud.

He was expressing the Kayode Fayemi administration’s worries over rising cases of sex offences despite high number of convictions recorded in the state.

Fapohunda said at a press briefing in Ado Ekiti on Monday that names of rapists, child abusers and perpetrators of sexual violence would also be announced on the state-owned radio and television, while the traditional ruler of the offender’s hometown would be alerted to get information about his personality.
