Lagos Assembly completes screening of cabinet nominees (Punch)

The Lagos State House of Assembly’s ad hoc committee for the screening of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s Commissioners and Special Advisers on Friday completed screening of the second batch of the nominees. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the 16-man committee, headed by Mr Rotimi Abiru, the Chief Whip of the House, commenced the exercise for the second batch of 13 nominees on Thursday. The Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) Friday announced its interception of 21 contraband drugs including tramadol valued at over N5 billion. 32 missing after boat sinks in DR Congo (Guardian)

Thirty-two people are missing, feared dead, after a boat carrying more than 70 passengers capsized on Lake Kivu in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo, officials said Friday. Felice Gimondi: Italian cycling legend dies at the age of 76 (BBC)

Italian cycling legend Felice Gimondi, one of only seven riders to have won all three Grand Tours, has died at the age of 76. Gimondi suffered a heart attack while swimming in Sicily on Friday. After a late call-up, he won the 1965 Tour de France in his first season as a professional at just 22 years old. By winning the Giro d’Italia in 1967 and the Vuelta a Espana in 1968, he became the second cyclist after Jacques Anquetil to win all three Grand Tours. Read more
