How electrician killed customer, hid corpse under bed – Police (Punch)
A police sergeant, Yusuf Olatunji, on Monday, explained to a Lagos State High Court in Ikeja how a 26-year-old electrician, Lawrence Ikonne, allegedly murdered his customer, Isa Yaya, and hid the corpse under his bed.
Olatunji, who investigated the crime, told the court that Ikonne murdered the deceased by hitting him on the head with a plank, tied his body with a generator cable, covered it with a piece of nylon and ran away.
According to Olatunji, the suspect committed the offence on October 10, 2014, at his residence, No. 16 Afro Close, Afromedia Estate, Okokomiako, Lagos. Read more
50-year-old cleaner in court for allegedly stealing generator wire (Punch)
The police on Thursday docked a 50-year-old cleaner, Ayuba Apagu, at an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court over an alleged theft of his employer’s generator wire valued N25,000.
The defendant, who resides at No. 4 Yaya Hassan Adeshina St., Idimu, Lagos, is facing two counts of willful damage and stealing.
The prosecutor, Insp Matthew Akhaluode, told the court that Apagu damaged a Mikano Generator valued at N2.5 million, belonging to his employer, a first generation bank located in Lagos. Read more
Two charged with stealing rams (Nation)
The accused pleaded not guilty.
Prosecuting Inspector Ingobo Emby said the accused committed the offence on January 21, by 3am, at Onikan, Lagos. He alleged that the duo stole the rams belonging to the complainant, Maj. M. I. Muazu. Read more
Salesman allegedly steals human hair worth N2.3m (Punch)
The police in Lagos, on Monday, arraigned a salesman, Joseph Ogang, before an Ogba Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing 34 packs of human hair worth N2.3m.
According to the police prosecutor, Benson Emuerhi, the 45-year-old Ogang, who was a salesman at Kechi Hair Beauty Salon, conspired with others, who are still at large, to steal the product from his employer.
Emuerhi, who told the court that Ogang sold the human hair and converted the proceeds to his personal use, also alleged that the suspect stole the sum of N150,000. Read more
Two siblings arraigned for alleged N5.9m fraud (Nation)
Two siblings, Lukman Yusuf, 30; and Ayisat Yusuf, 36; were yesterday arraigned at a Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly defrauding a woman of N5.9 million.
They are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, obtaining under false pretences and stealing before Chief Magistrate Kikelomo Ayeye.
Prosecuting Superintendent of Police Thomas Nurudeen told the court that the defendants committed the offences between September and November last year. Read more
Sales agent, driver defraud businessman of N10.9m (Punch)
A sales agent, Abdullahi Yakubu, has been arrested by the police for allegedly conniving with a tanker driver to defraud his boss, Mohammed Idris, of N10.9m.
It was gathered that Yakubu, who is based in Lagos, had informed Idris, the director of Always Petroleum Energy Services Limited, of the availability of 45,000 litres of Dual Purpose Kerosene valued at N10.6m at the MRS depot, Tincan Island Port, Apapa, Lagos.
After agreeing to purchase the product, Idris asked Yakubu to hire a Matrix truck that would convey it to Kogi State, where his company is located. Read more
Banker ‘hacks customers’ accounts, transfers N2.4m to friends’ (Nation)
An ex-employee in an old generation bank, Kazeem Olawuwo, who allegedly stole N2.4 million from several of the bank’s customers’ accounts, was on Thursday brought before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
Olawuwo, 37, was arraigned alongside his female friend, Risikatu Wahab, 35, on a 12-count charge of conspiracy, fraud and stealing, before Mrs M. F. Onamusi.
Prosecuting Sergeant Friday Mameh alleged that the defendant committed the offences between October 2016 and April 2018, at the Orile Iganmu branch, Lagos of the bank. Read more
Two impersonate policemen, steal wallet (Punch)
Two men – Babatunde Ishola, 57, and Teslim Ibikunle, 27 – were on Monday in Lagos brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court over alleged impersonation of policemen and stealing.
Ishola, a resident of Agbado, Lagos, and Ibikunle who lives at Ijaye, Lagos, are facing trial for conspiracy, impersonation and stealing before Magistrate Mrs M.O Tanimola.
Ishola pleaded guilty to the offences while Ibikunle pleaded not guilty. Tanimola ordered that Ishola should be kept in the Kirikiri Prisons pending review of the facts of the case and his sentencing. Read more
Police foil barber’s cell break bid (Nation)
A 20-year-old barber, Tosin Olaniran, who allegedly broke police cell in a bid to escape from custody, was Tuesday arraigned at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.
Olaniran is facing a two-count charge of breach of the peace and wilful damage.
Prosecuting Sergeant Kenrich Nomayo alleged that the accused committed the offences on January 25 at Shogunle Police Station. Read more
