England name Chris Silverwood as new head coach (Metro)

England have named Chris Silverwood as their new head coach after Trevor Bayliss decided to step down from the position.

Bayliss, 56, allowed his contract to run down after a memorable summer of cricket for both the ODI and Test sides which included a dramatic World Cup win and a tied Ashes series with Australia.

Silverwood, 44, had been England’s bowling coach since January 2018 and will take full charge ahead of next month’s tour of New Zealand.

England will play five Twenty20s and two Tests against the Black Caps before their tour of South Africa which begins in mid-December. Read more
