Everton’s Oumar Niasse to join Cardiff on loan (Guardian)

Oumar Niasse has agreed to join Cardiff City on loan from Everton until the end of the season, when the Welsh club would have the option to make the deal permanent.

If they chose to take it, the total cost of the package would be £10 million, including the loan fee. The 28-year-old striker, whose Everton contract runs until June 2020, will undergo his Cardiff medical on Thursday.

Niasse has been out of the picture under Marco Silva at Everton this season, playing only 58 minutes in the Premier League across five substitute appearances, and he is eager for more regular opportunity. The Senegalese believes he will get it at Cardiff, where the need for greater firepower is clear. Neil Warnock’s team, who sit 17th in the Premier League – one point above third-bottom Newcastle – have scored 19 times in 22 matches in the competition

Warnock has wanted a new striker since the beginning of January and he has appeared close, at times, to signing Emiliano Sala from Nantes. The Argentinian is the third top scorer in Ligue 1 with 12 goals. It is unclear at present how Cardiff’s move for Niasse will impact on the pursuit of Sala. Read more
