Fleeing Lagos buttock-enlargement doctor now in custody — Police (Punch)

The Lagos State medical doctor, Idara Bassey, who was declared wanted in connection with the death of a 36-year-old woman during a buttock enlargement surgery at a clinic in Lekki Phase 1, is now in police custody, PUNCH Metro reports.

Our correspondent learnt from the state Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, on Tuesday, that Bassey is currently being investigated at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Panti.

Bassey had previously fled after Abiola died during a buttock enlargement procedure at her clinic on August 26, 2024. Read more

Wanted ex-beauty queen surrenders to NDLEA for drug offence (Punch)

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has said a former beauty queen, Oluwadamilola Aderinoye, has turned herself in at its Lagos command.

The agency accused the ex-beauty queen, who was the Miss Commonwealth Nigeria Culture in 2015/2016, of hiding after she was declared wanted eight months ago.

A statement on Sunday by the agency’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, noted that Aderinoye was declared wanted after she escaped when operatives raided her apartment in Lekki on January 24, 2024. Read more

Super TV CEO alleged murder suspect Chidinma’s trial resumes Oct 15 (Punch)

A Lagos High Court sitting at the Tafawa Balewa Square will on October 15, 2024, resume the trial of Chidinma Ojukwu, charged with the murder of the Super TV Chief Executive Officer, Michael Usifo Ataga.

Ojukwu, a 300-level Mass Communication student of the University of Lagos, is being prosecuted alongside her sister, Chioma Egbuchu and one Adedapo Quadri for the murder of Ataga.

The defendants were arraigned on October 12, 2021, by the Lagos State Government. Read more

Lagos okada riders brutalise man mistaken for police informant (Punch)

A 37-year-old Uber Driver, Gbolahan Fagbenja, is currently receiving medical treatment after being brutally attacked by a mob of motorcycle riders in the Abesan area of Lagos State.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the victim was attacked on Saturday, August 17, after being mistaken for a police informant.

The attack came after officials of the Lagos State Task Force had raided motorcycle parks in the area and seized some of the motorcycles in the process. Read more

Man caught defecating in public attacks Lagos official (Punch)

A yet-to-be-identified man has been apprehended for allegedly assaulting an employee of the Lagos State Environment and Water Resources while on duty at Berger along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the incident happened in the early hours of Tuesday.

The suspect was said to be defecating on the median along the expressway when the employee, led by officials of the Lagos State Environmental and Sanitation Corps swooped in on him. Read more

3 ex-convicts, 18 other miscreants arrested in Lagos (Punch)

No fewer than 21 suspects have been arrested by the Lagos State Government during a coordinated surveillance operation conducted on Saturday in the Ikoyi, Victoria Island, and Lekki-Ajah areas of the state.

In a statement on X.com, the state Commissioner for the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, said the operation was to tackle the menace of miscreants and destitutes causing nuisance in those axes.

He wrote, “Coordinated surveillance was today carried out to checkmate the menace of miscreants and nuisance caused by destitutes across Ikoyi, VI and Lekki-Ajah corridor.

Police arrest 2 for robbing sex workers in Lagos (Punch)

The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended a gang of robbers for allegedly targeting and robbing three commercial sex workers on Adeniran Ogunsanya Street, Bode Thomas, Surulere Local Government Area of the state.

The state command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed on Friday that the two suspects, whose identities were not disclosed, were taken into custody on August 28, 2024, for their involvement in the crime.

PUNCH Online gathered that on August 23, 2024, around 4.30 pm, the suspects allegedly picked up the three sex workers from Adeniran Ogunsanya Street in Bode Thomas, seeking their services.

Fake forex trader arraigned for fraud (Punch)

A 39-year-old man, Bassey Ikpi, accused of posing as a forex trader, was arraigned on Thursday before the Lagos State Chief Magistrate Court in Ebute-Metta for allegedly defrauding several individuals and companies of large sums in multiple currencies.

The defendant, who is facing four counts bordering on conspiracy, obtaining by false pretence, fraud, and breach of public peace, preferred against him by the police.

Ikpi allegedly obtained N1,066,311,503, $355,000, and €13,000 under fraudulent circumstances, from his victims. Read more

Man allegedly kills younger brother during fight (Vanguard)

The Police in Lagos have arrested a man who allegedly killed his younger brother during a fight in the new Iba area of Lagos State.

The cause of the fight was unknown as of the time of writing this report. However, the Police said the tragedy occurred on Friday.

Spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command, SP Benjamin Hudenyin, who confirmed the incident, explained that it was reported at the Iba Police Division on August 24, 2024. Read more

Police arrest 70-year-old man for defiling teenage daughter (Vanguard)

Lagos State Police Command is currently investigating a 70-year-old farmer, named Bashiru Abiodun, for defiling his daughter.

Abiodun, who lives at No. 26, Papa-Ado Street in the Agbowa community of Lagos State, was arrested on August 29, 2024, by the Agbowa-Ejirin division of the community for defiling his 14-year-old daughter.

According to the victim’s mother, Mrs. Abiodun, “My daughter told me that her father had been sexually abusing her before I caught him defiling our daughter.” Read more
