Exclusive: ntel CEO, Ernest Akinola, resigns

Thisislagos.ng can confirm that Ernest Akinola, CEO of ntel has resigned.

His resignation, at the tail end of April 2019, extends the game of musical chairs at the struggling telecom company.

Akinola joined ntel in October 2017 following the shock exit of pioneer CEO, Kamar Abass in August 2017. Before his appointment, he had a stint at Etisalat and was a strategic consultant to several blue chip organisations including Blackberry Nigeria, the World  Bank, and also provided strategic oversight to Swazi Mobile in formulating a commercial strategic plan for the successful application of a 4G VoLTE, 3g, 2g licence in Swaziland, South Africa.

Ernest Akinola had said upon resumption that “ntel has tremendous untapped capabilities which can provide a step change in customer experience for Large Enterprise, SME’s and Consumers. I look forward to leading the team in driving innovation and delighting our current and future customer.”

He was unable toachieve any of those as his tenure was bogged down by boardroom intrigues, political persecution of the Vice Chairman, Tunde Ayeni and an inability to attract investors.

The company has witnessed, in the past one year, mass defection of directors and general managers, the most recent of whom was Chief Financial officer, Abhulime Ehiagwina
