Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) said Friday it has commenced investigations into circumstances surrounding how an intruder climbed an AZMAN Air aircraft waiting for air traffic control clearance to take off at the Lagos Airport. Its General Manager, Public Affairs, Mrs Henrietta Yakubu disclosed this in a statement. She said the pilot of the AZMAN Air aircraft marked with registration number 5N – HAI departing Lagos for Port Harcourt reported the incident. Read more

Petitioners’ Witness 62, Osita Chidoka, who served as the Peoples Democratic Party’s collation agent at the National Collation Centre for the February 23, 2019 presidential election, told the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal on Friday that he had never seen the server of the Independent National Electoral Commission. But Chidoka said INEC Chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, consistently told them about the server and also acknowledged its existence during the collation of the presidential election. Read more

Tribunal denies PDP more time to close case (Guardian)

The Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal has denied People’s Democratic Party and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar’s request for more time to conclude their case. Chairman of the tribunal, Justice Mohammed Garba, ruled that the tribunal will continue with proceedings till later in the day to enable the petitioners to conclude their case. Chris Uche, PDP’s lawyer, asked for more time from the tribunal to conclude defence’s case. The tribunal granted the PDP 10 days to conclude its case which lapses on Friday. Read more

Immunisation: Edo targets 100 per cent coverage this year, says Obaseki (Guardian)

Gov. Godwin Obaseki of Edo on Friday in Benin promised that the state would achieve 100 percent immunisation coverage against diseases across the 18 local government areas of the state. Obaseki, represented by his deputy, Mr Philip Shaibu, made the promise during the flag-off of the 2019 National Immunization Plus Days (NIPDs) in the state. After 10 years polio-free, 2 unconfirmed cases reported in Kogi (Guardian)

Two unconfirmed cases of the polio virus have been reported in Kogi State after being polio-free for 10 years. Dr Abubakar Yakubu, Executive Director, Kogi Primary Healthcare Development Agency (KSPHCDA), disclosed this on Friday at a stakeholder meeting with the Social Mobilisation Committee (SMC) for National Immunisation Plus Days (NIPDs) in Lokoja. Yakubu said that the two cases of polio virus were reported in Ankpa and Dekina local government areas (LGAs) of Kogi, saying, however, that they were yet to be confirmed. Read more

23-year-old electrocuted cutting tree (Nation)

Residents of Enugwu-Agidi community in Njikoka local government area of Anambra state have been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of a 23-year old man identified as Nduka. The deceased was reportedly electrocuted when he climbed a breadfruit tree to cut its branches directly under electric high tension wire in the area. The Nation learnt the deceased, who hailed from Iruobieri village of the community, was reportedly hired to carry out the act. Read more

At least eight people were killed and dozens more wounded Friday when a bomb detonated near a major university in Kabul while students were waiting to take an exam, officials said. Scarlett Keeling: Man jailed for killing and sexually assaulting teen in Goa (BBC)

A man has been jailed for 10 years for killing and sexually assaulting the British teenager Scarlett Keeling in Goa in 2008. Samson D’Souza was found guilty of “culpable homicide not amounting to murder” by an Indian court on Wednesday. The court upheld the acquittal of another man, Placido Carvalho.
