I am as guilty as charged, fake medical doctor tells court (Nation)

A fake medical doctor, Salisu Usman, Wednesday confessed at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos that he had been treating patients, posing as a qualified medical doctor.

“I am as guilty as charged,” Usman, 28, told court.

Consequently, Magistrate Mrs B.O. Osunsanmi ordered his remand at the Kirikiri Prisons until July 20 for a review of facts and sentencing.

The defendant, who pleaded for mercy, lives at Oluwalogbo, Isefun community in Ayobo, Lagos outskirts.

Prosecuting Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Ezekiel Ayorinde, said Usman committed the offence on July 6 at Baden Junction in Ayobo. Read more

Suspected fake lawyer arrested in Lagos (Independent)

Police in Lagos have arrested a 27-year-old man, Destiny Otubanbo over alleged impersonation and theft.

The suspect was arrested by the operatives attached to the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) led by Peter Gana, a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP). He was alleged to have defrauded a number of victims and bought exotic cars, phones and other valuables with his false bank alerts.

Lagos State Police Commissioner, Imohimi Edgal, while parading the suspect at the police command on Monday advised businessmen and women to be wary of fake bank statements. Read more

40-year-old driver absconds with N4.5m car (Punch)

A 40-year-old driver, Morris Udoh, has allegedly run away with a Toyota Camry valued at N4.5 million.

Punch Metro learnt that the car was given to Udoh on a hired purchase by one Patience Odamo.

It was gathered that Udoh, who was to pay a weekly instalment of N40,000 to Odamo, ran away after he collected the vehicle on March 16 at Victoria Garden City, Lekki, Lagos.

Our correspondent learnt that all means to find Udoh proved abortive as his phone number was switched off and he was not found in his apartment on Simisola Street, Surulere, Lagos. Read more

Ibeju-Lekki community accuses Lagos of land grabbing (Punch)

The Abijo community in the Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos State has cried out over an alleged forceful occupation of their land, Fidiso Estate, by the Lagos State Government.

Members of the community said they gave up their farms to provide land for the estate, adding that they were surprised that the government, through Ibile Holdings Limited, Alpha Mead Development Company Limited and their subsidiaries, suddenly moved into the community and claimed the land.

It was gathered that the community leaders took the case to court to stop the alleged illegal occupation. Read more

Police raid hoodlums’ hideout in Ketu (Vanguard)

No fewer than 20 suspected hoodlums terrorising residents of Ketu, Mile 12. in Kosofe area of Lagos State had been arrested after a raid of the area by operatives of Ketu Police Division.

The Spokesman for the Police in Lagos, CSP Chike Oti, who confirmed the arrests, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday that the suspects would be charged to court.

He said the suspects had been attacking residents of Ketu and snatching bags from people, particularly women at night and early morning. Read more

6 Suspected Cultists arrested in Lagos Hotel (Independent)

The operatives of the Anti-Cultism of the Lagos State Police Command, led by  Akaninyene Etuk, a Chief Superintendent of Police(CSP) have arrested six suspected cultists in the state.

The suspects were arrested on Wednesday, 11th July 2018 in two separate operations. Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Police Command, Edgal Imohimi who disclosed the arrest during a press briefing at the headquarters of the Lagos State Police Command, GRA, Ikeja said that to  sustain the onslaught against cultists in the State, “on 11th  July, 2018, a reliable information from member of the public led to the arrest of the following suspected cultists during the initiation of new members into Black Axe Confraternity popularly known as Aiye, at Malambo Hotel, Ilasamaja area of Lagos State.” Read more

Undergraduate raped, barks like a dog after spiritual cleansing (Guardian)

A 29-year-old female student of the College of Education, Akoka, Lagos State, who visited a Muslim cleric, Mustapha Hammed, popularly known as ‘Alfa’, for spiritual cleaning to avert calamity, is allegedly barking like a dog after undergoing cleansing in Ikorodu area of the state.

The cleric, one Mustapha Hammed, aged 23, who has been arrested, admitted to have put a live frog in the water the undergraduate used to bath during the cleansing.

An investigation by the police revealed that the suspect raped the victim upon discovering that she was a virgin. Thereafter, he allegedly wiped the blood with a piece of cloth. Read more

Police arrest Lagos lawmaker, 2 others over illegal firearms (Guardian)

The police in Lagos on Saturday said they had arrested a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly and two others over alleged unlawful possession of firearms.

The spokesman of the command, CSP Chike Oti, said that the suspects were undergoing interrogations.

“The first and second suspect, Wale Oye (37) and Ganiyu Ajiboluwa (47), were arrested on July 12, at about 5.45 p.m. by a team of Inspector-General of Police X-Squad operatives on patrol at Apple Junction, along Festac extension, Amuwo Odofin. Read more

Customer kills bar attendant over N250 (Punch)

The family of a bar attendant on Surulere Street, Dopemu, Lagos, Ikechukwu Eguzouwa, has been thrown into mourning after his tragic death.

Eguzouwa was reportedly killed by a customer, Akeem Bakare, during an argument over payment for a bottle of alcohol. Saturday Punch learnt that Bakare had ordered for the drink to cool nerves during the Russia 2018 World Cup match between Nigeria and Argentina when the incident happened.

The deceased’s colleague, Abel Daniel, was said to have approached the attacker after the match requesting the money for the drink. Our correspondent learnt that an argument broke out when the tricycle rider claimed that a friend, who also visited the facility, had paid for him. Read more

Lagos prison provost arrested for drugs (SUN)

Nemesis, a recoil of nature, has finally caught up with the Provost, Nigerian Prisons Service, Lagos State Command, Mr. Wale Iseagba, who was allegedly nabbed with some illicit drugs, which he intended to sell to some inmates through a point man in Ikoyi Prison.

He was arrested on Wednesday morning, following a week long monitoring of his activities. Prior to his arrest, his lifestyle, which suggested that he was living above his income, aroused the curiosity of his colleagues, who then complained to higher authorities. Read more
