Man sets sister ablaze for slapping mum (Nation)

The police in Lagos have arrested a man simply identified as Chima for allegedly setting his elder sister ablaze.

Victoria was alleged to be two months pregnant at the time the incident occurred at their residence in Okokomaiko area of the state on May 14.

The Nation gathered that Chima had picked up a keg in the kitchen to hit his sister, Victoria, 20, for allegedly slapping their mother, not knowing that the keg contained petrol. Read more

Man allegedly abducts, rapes neighbour’s teenage girl (Nation)

Operatives of the Lagos Police Command have arrested a 26-year-old man Benjamin Omade for alleged abduction and defilement of a teenage girl.

The victim (names withheld) was said to be the daughter of his next door neighbour at Bariga.

It was gathered that Omade allegedly eloped with the underage girl since May 17 with no one knowing their whereabouts.

He was said to have taken her to 61, Odunsi Street, Bariga where the police tracked him to and arrested him on Sunday evening. Read more

Housemaid fakes death to escape mother’s financial pressure – Police (Punch)

The Lagos State Police Command has said that 19-year-old Margaret Ikumu has been questioned for conniving with her friends, Marvellous Mary and Nneka Buddy, to fake her death in the Ajah area of the state.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, said in a statement on Sunday that Margaret admitted to faking her death but explained that she did it to escape from financial pressure being mounted on her by her mother and uncles.

In a bid to make the story appear real, Elkana said Margaret, who was working as a housemaid in an estate in Ajah, allegedly created a Facebook account using her employer daughter’s picture and announced her death on the page.

The PPRO stated, “On Friday, May 15, 2020, the command received a petition signed by one Tony Iji on behalf of the family of one Margaret Ikumu, 19, from Oni community, Oju Local Government Area, Benue State. The petitioner stated that the famil’s attention was drawn to a post on Facebook stating that the said Margaret Ikumu died a few days ago and was secretly buried by her two friends, Marvellous Mary and Nneka Buddy, in the Ajah area. Police brutalise, detain Lagos officials during enforcement (Punch)

Some riot policemen serving as security operatives on the site of an ongoing building construction on Olumide Madariola Street, Sea Side Estate, Badore Ajah, Lagos, have allegedly attacked a team of the Lagos State Building Control Agency.

The PUNCH was told that personal effects of the officials, who were on an official assignment, were also seized by the policemen.

The Assistant Director, Public Affairs Unit, LASBCA, Gbadeyanka Bello, said the team was acting on instructions of the general manager of the agency after several reports of illegal and non-conforming constructions were reported in the area. Read more

Suspected Aiye kingpin, ‘Obasanjo’, two others killed in Lagos (Vanguard)

The suspected leader of the Aiye confraternity, Waidi, popularly known as ‘Obasanjo’ was weekend, shot dead by members of a rival cult group, in the Oworoshoki area of Lagos.

Two other persons, one of them a nursing mother was also shot dead.

The deceased was reportedly driving home at about 8.30 pm, Sunday, when members of a rival cult group who were trailing him, fired a shot at his car.

He was said to have alighted to inspect the level of damage on his car, on reaching the boundary between Oworoshoki and Ifako, only to sight the armed rival members approaching. Read more

Curfew: Policeman kills pedestrian in attempt to impound motorcycle (Nation)

There was chaos at the Obabiyi area of Ikotun penultimate Wednesday night after stray bullet from a policeman, Inspector Charles Okoro, killed a father of two identified as Fatai Oladipolupo, 28.

The incident occurred around 10pm while Oladipupo was said to have stepped out of his residence to buy bread in order to break his fast.

It was gathered that the policeman whom residents alleged was notorious in seizing and extorting motorcycles, had tried to shoot a rider who dodged him. Read more

Actor stabs neighbour to death over electricity bill (Punch)

A 30-year-old Nollywood actor, Temitayo Ogunbusola, has allegedly stabbed his neighbour, Oladotun Osho, to death following a disagreement over the payment of electricity bill.

The incident happened penultimate Sunday at No. 4 Sebil Kazeem Street in the Ikotun area of Lagos State.

Temitayo was said to have been beaten to a pulp by a mob before the intervention of policemen from the Ikotun Police Station.

The remains of the victim were deposited in a morgue for autopsy. Read more
