Family laments death of 18-year old Ojuade as Odumosu visits (Guardian)
It was lamentation galore for the family of the 18-year old girl, Monsurat Ojuade, who was allegedly killed by a team of detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, Lagos, in Ijeshatedo, Surulere area of the state, last Friday.
The family is crying for justice and asking Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and top echelon of the force to ensure that their daughter does not die in vain. Monsurat, the last born in a family of four, an admission seeker, who scored 236 in the last Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) to study Accounting at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ife, Osun State, was killed by a trigger-happy policeman inside their house at No 53, Mogaji Street, Ijeshatedo.
Her mother, Mrs. Ojuade told The Guardian yesterday, that Monsurat and her elder sister were packing in goods from her provisions store beside the house, to close business for the day, when the incident happened. Read more
Sex worker slits Lagos trader’s stomach with blade, victim dies (Punch)
A trader, Sunday Emmanuel, has lost his life after a suspected sex worker, identified as Precious, allegedly slit his stomach with a blade at FESTAC Town in the Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State.
PUNCH Metro gathered that Emmanuel had a makeshift shop on First Avenue, where he sold alcoholic drinks.
During a visit to the area on Monday, our correspondent learnt that Precious usually visited the spot at odd hours in search of customers.

‘Lagos will implement Value Added Tax law despite court order’ (Guardian)
A member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Setonji David, has said that the state would go ahead with the implementation of its recently assented Value Added Tax (VAT) law despite a stay of execution by the Appeal Court in Abuja.
The lawmaker, who represents Badagry II Constituency in the House, stated this, yesterday, when he appeared as a guest on Channels Television’s ‘Sunrise Daily’ breakfast programme, tagged: “VAT collection dispute,” adding that the enactment of the VAT law followed due process.
He said Lagos had always clamoured for true federalism and would continue the implementation of the VAT law pending any order by the Appeal Court ruling otherwise.
Meanwhile, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Ajuri Ngelale, has alleged that arguments against VAT collection had been heavily politicised ahead of the next elections. Read more
School resumption: LASG calls for vigilance, adherence to COVID-19 protocols (Vanguard)
The Lagos State Government (LASG) has called for vigilance and adherence to safety regulations in the face of Coronavirus (COVID-19) as students return to school at the end of the vacation.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that schools resumed on Monday while those in model colleges and upgraded schools will resume in batches due to the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
The call was made in a statement signed by Mr Ganiu Lawal, Assistant Director, Public Affairs, Lagos State Ministry of Education on Monday in Lagos. Read more
Landlord’s son kills tenant in Ondo (Tribune)
A middle-aged man, Samuel Omojola, has been arrested by men of the Ondo State Police Command for allegedly killing his father’s tenant following a long-standing rent dispute.
The tenant was hit with a plank on his head by Omojola during a fight between him and the landlord at his Oke ijebu residence while the landlord’s son was defending his father.
A source in the house, explained that the landlord son alleged the tenant of insulting his father over the rent issue, which led to argument between the two and degenerated into a fight.
The landlord was said to have called his son who rushed home and hit the deceased with planks on the head without knowing the cause of the disagreement between his dad and the tenant. Read more
COVID-19: 1.6m Nigerians Fully Vaccinated – FG (DailyTrust)
The federal government has said over 1.6 million eligible persons have been fully vaccinated.
The Executive-Director, National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), Dr. Faisal Shuaib, said this at the at the national briefing of the Presidential Steering Committee (PSC), on Monday.
Shuaib said 1,692,315 persons have received two doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines, as approved by the World Health Organization (WHO).
He also said that as of Monday evening, 4,052,756 eligible Nigerians have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccines. Read more
EFCC arrests 31 alleged internet fraudsters in Edo (Leadership)
Operatives of the Benin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Sunday, arrested 31 suspected internet fraudsters in Edo State.
In a statement yesterday by Wilson Uwujaren, head, Media and Publicity of the command, the suspects were arrested in two separate locations in Benin sequel to actionable intelligence.
He said, “Among those arrested are suspected fraudsters who, a few weeks ago, were seen in a viral video standing on top of their cars and throwing bundles of Naira notes into the air at a popular Plaza in Benin City. They had embarked on a similar mission at the same venue on Sunday before they were intercepted by operatives of the commission at the exit. 4 dead, 166 houses destroyed in Abuja estate flood (Punch)
No fewer than four persons were feared dead as flood wreaked havoc at Trademore Estate in the Lugbe area of the Federal Capital Territory on Sunday night.
Also, about 166 houses and 26 vehicles were destroyed by the flood.
According to the residents on Monday said the flood was as a result of the downpour which occurred all through the night on Sunday.
A resident who gave his name as Oladipo said some cars were swept away by the flood. Read more

12 die in latest Kaduna attack (Sun)
Suspected bandits last weekend invaded the Apiyejim community in Zango-Kataf Local Government Area (LGA) of Kaduna State, leaving 11 persons dead.
Though the spokesman of the Kaduna State Police Command, ASP Muhammed Jalige, did not pick up his call for confirmation, a media source quoted one Jonathan Ishaya who confirmed the development.
A source said the attackers invaded the community at about 5:30pm, on Sunday, and shot sporadically at the villagers who were going about their normal activities.
The source, who claimed to have sighted three of the assailants with AK-47, said that the gunmen operated for about five minutes but did not set any house on fire as it used to be the case in previous attacks. Read more

British rock band Coldplay and South Korean boy band BTS have announced plans to release a joint single titled “My Universe.”
Written by Coldplay and produced by the legendary pop producer Max Martin, the new track is sung in both English and Korean. ‘My Universe’ is available to pre-order.
“My Universe” will appear on Coldplay’s forthcoming album Music of the Spheres, which is out October 15. Previously, Coldplay unveiled the lead single ‘Higher Power’ and the 10-minute closing track ‘Coloratura’.

Tanya Fear: Missing Dr Who actress found safe in LA (BBC)
British actress Tanya Fear has been found in Los Angeles after being reported missing last week.
A spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department told the BBC that the 31-year-old was safe. They would not provide further details.
A statement said the actress’s family were “relieved and extremely grateful”.
Fear appeared in a 2018 episode of BBC sci-fi drama Doctor Who. Friends and family said she had last been seen on Thursday. Read more
