Fashola: Nigerians enjoy electricity supplies in three years than PDP’s 16 years (ThisDay)

The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, has said that Nigerians enjoyed improved electricity supplies in the last three years of President Muhammadu Buhari’s government than they did in the 16 years that the opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governed the country.

Fashola said this in a speech he delivered on Tuesday at the Nigeria-South Africa Chamber of Commerce (NSACC) October 2018 breakfast forum.

The speech was sent to THISDAY Wednesday in Abuja by his media office, and his claims therein coincided with disclosures by the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) that the implementation of its Energising Economies Initiative (EEI) in Lagos’ Sura Shopping Complex has resulted in the decommissioning of 700 petrol power generating sets previously used by traders in the multipurpose shopping centre.

According to Fashola, Nigeria’s power generation in 2015 when President Muhammadu Buhari took office averaged 4,000 megawatts (MW), while transmission and distribution averaged 5,000MW and 3,000MW respectively. Though, these claims of his have previously been debunked by electricity distribution companies (Discos) through their association – the Association of Nigerian Electricity Distributors (ANED).
