Father, son in police net for cybercrime (Guardian)

Operatives of Lagos State Police Command have arrested a 19-year-old boy and his accomplice father for allegedly defrauding a businessman Ekemezie Obinna Emmanuel of the sum of N1.2milion through cyber-related fraud.

Reports reveal the suspect identified as Emmanuel John Amadi met Ekemezie on facebook sometime in July 2019 having requested for friendship and the request was accepted following which they started exchanging pleasantries.

In one of the posts, the suspect was said to have told his new friend that he was into Forex business and needed prospective buyers. Read more

 

Four policemen arrested for killing disarmed suspects (Punch)

Four Special Anti-Robbery Squad personnel have been arrested for killing two suspected phone thieves in Lagos.

While reacting to PUNCH Metro’s report on the incident, the Lagos State Police Command said in a statement on Wednesday that the four policemen would be charged for murder.

PUNCH Metro had reported that a video posted on the social media showed the moment the SARS operatives shot dead the two disarmed suspected phone thieves. Read more

 

Driver accuses LASTMA officials of N10,000 extortion (Nation)

A taxi driver, Sunday Hunkokoe, has accused officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), of N10,000 extortion.

Hunkokoe alleged that the officials, who wrongly accused him of not wearing his seatbelt, also broke one of his headlamps.

He said the incident occurred on August 7, at Iponri in Surulere, Lagos Mainland. Read more

 

Teenager, two others charged with attempted murder, cultism (Punch)

A teenage bricklayer and two others charged with attempted murder, on Tuesday appeared before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State.

The police arraigned 18-year-old Folajimi along with 25-year-old generator repairer, Abiona, and 20-year-old labourer, Damilola on four counts of conspiracy, membership of an unlawful society, illegal possession of ammunition and attempted murder.

Police arrest three ‘car thieves’ (Nation)

Policemen attached to the Presidential Taskforce on Apapa Traffic have arrested two suspected car hijackers at Mile Two, Lagos.

It was gathered that the suspects were arrested on Tuesday morning while attempting to rob motorists in the rush-hour traffic.

Their arrest came about a week after policemen attached to Satellite Division apprehended one Francis Abubakar, while his gang comprising three men were attacking motorists in an attempt to snatch vehicles at Mosalachi, Badagry Expressway. Read more

 

Two tried for ‘possession of firearms’ (Nation)

The police in Lagos on Tuesday arraigned Sadiq Azeez, 25, and Gbolahan Wasiu, 40, at an Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State for alleged conspiracy and unlawful possession of firearms.

The men, whose addresses were not provided, are facing a four-count charge of conspiracy, felony, membership of unlawful society and unlawful possession of weapons.

Lawyer arraigned for alleged N1.2m fraud (Nation)

The Lagos lawyer, Lolade Johnson, on Tuesday appeared at an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for alleged N1.2 million fraud.

The police charged Johnson, 49, with four counts of fraud, stealing, malicious damage and breach of the peace.

Prosecuting Inspector Oladele Adebayo said the defendant committed the offence in July 2017 at 7, Ondo Street, Apapa Road, Ebute Meta. Read more

 

‘Suya’ seller allegedly assaults three brothers (Punch)

A 28-year-old ‘Suya’ seller, Olayemi, who allegedly assaulted three brothers, on Thursday, appeared in a Yaba Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

The police charged Olayemi, who resides in the Bariga area of Lagos with two counts of conspiracy and assault.

The Prosecution Counsel, Sgt. Godwin Oriabure told the court that the defendant committed the offence in July 2017, at Ayedun junction in Bariga, Lagos. Read more

 

Manager charged with $1m equipment theft (Nation)

A project manager, Joseph Olowe, accused of stealing his employer’s equipment valued at $1 million, Wednesday appeared before an Igbosere Magistrates Court, Lagos.

Olowe, 42, was arraigned by the police on a two-count charge of conspiracy and theft, before Mrs. K.K. Awoyinka.

Prosecution Counsel, Mr. Moruf Animashaun, alleged that the defendant and others, at large, committed the offence in 2015, at the Lagos State Housing Project in Ilubiri, Ikoyi, Lagos. Read more

 

Landlord’s son charged with N350,000 (Nation)

A landlord’s son, Quadri Adebayo, on Tuesday appeared at a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly defrauding a shop seeker of N350,000.

Adebayo, 26, is facing a charge of fraud to which he pleaded not guilty.

Prosecuting Inspector Ajaga Agboko told the court that the defendant committed the offence on July 16 at 11am at Harmony Estate, Langbasa, Ajah, Lagos. Read more

 

Contractor allegedly defrauds client of N4.8m in Lagos (Punch)

A building contractor, Adeshina Ojomu, has been arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly defrauding a client, Lasisi Olayiwola, of N4.8m.

Ojumu, whose address was given as No. 8 Mogbotoluwa Close, Egbeda, Lagos, allegedly committed the offence on April 11, 2019.

The police prosecutor, Sergeant Mike Umah, told the court that Ojumu obtained the money from Olayiwola, the owner of Bishmur Company Limited, under the pretext of fabricating 219 aluminium windows for the company. Read more

 

Court strikes out suit on Ipaja land (Nation)

The Lagos State High Court in Ikeja has struck out a suit by some families over a parcel of land in Ipaja.

The claimants are Chief Abibu Ajibawo, Ayinla Falola, Babatunde Abiola and Pastor Babatunde Adebiyi-Ilo.

They sued for themselves and on behalf of Oguntoyinbo, Abiola, Falola and Ilo families. Read more

 

Tax agent faces N2.4m fraud charge (Nation)

A tax agent of a Lagos-based company, Kehinde Babatunde, who allegedly defrauded the company of N2.4 million meant for tax payments, on Tuesday appeared at an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

Babatunde, 44, was arraigned on a six-count charge of fraud, forgery and stealing by the police, before Mrs. K. S. Abdulsalam.

Prosecuting Sergeant Friday Mameh alleged that the defendant committed the offences from 2017 to sometime in 2018 in Lagos. Read more
