Father of 14-year-old Qudus Anifowoshe, who was murdered and dismembered at Igbogbo Agunfoye Ire, Ikorodu area of Lagos State, Taofeek Anifowose, has called on the state government and the Commissioner of Police, Zubairu Muazu, to bring the killers of his son to book.

While speaking with our correspondent yesterday, Taofeek stated that Qudus was last seen with a 17-year-old Daniel Amme, a student of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) who lives with his grandmother and his son’s mutilated body was found in an uncompleted building behind Amme’s compound three days later. He explained that Qudus was declared missing on the evening of October 14, at about 7:00p.m. The boy had left home two hours prior to the time he was declared missing. Read more

Lagos residents lament hardship over bad road (Punch)

Residents of Kirikiri town have lamented hardship caused by the bad condition of Karimu Road, in the Oriade Local Council Development Area of Lagos State.

The residents claimed that the companies in the community neglected the road and failed in their corporate social responsibility.

They identified the companies trading in the community as Techno Oil and Gas Limited, Fatgbems Oil, Sam Star Nigeria Limited, Bovas Oil, Chisco Energy, Best Staff Construction Company, Kam Wire Nigeria Limited, Bolingo Nigeria Limited, Ratel Engineering Limited, Bao Yao Nigeria Limited, Reynold Nigeria Limited, among others. Stolen UK, US banks’ credit card info found on Naira Marley’s laptop, says EFCC witness (Guardian)

A Federal High Court in Lagos yesterday heard that stolen credit card information issued by European, American and Latin American banks were retrieved from a laptop allegedly belonging to the musician, Azeez Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley.

An Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) forensics expert, Nuru Buhari, told Justice Nicholas Oweibo that some of the credit card information belonged to four persons in the United Kingdom (UK) including one Nicole Louise. Buhari testified as EFCC’s first prosecution witness in Marley’s alleged card fraud trial, which began on Tuesday.

The witness, who was led in evidence by EFCC counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo, alleged that apart from the stolen information, the website visit history recovered from the device showed that the top five most visited sites dealt with buying and selling of stolen credit card information. Read more

Father nabbed for allegedly raping his two daughters (Guardian)

One Joseph Sunday of Obot Idim Ibesikpo, in Ibesikpo/Asutan local government area of Akwa Ibom State, has been nabbed by the police for allegedly raping his two daughters, aged nine and 13 years. It was gathered that the suspect had been having canal knowledge of his daughters for over three years after he divorced the mother of the girls who had relocated to Rivers State.

Investigations revealed that Sunday, in his late 40s, always had sex with his two daughters at same time in his home in Ibesikpo. It was also revealed that the suspect always threatens them with traditional injunction (Mbiam) if they make attempts to report the case to anyone. Read more

Nigerian murder victim ‘was lured into honeytrap by girl, 17 (NewTelegraph)

A teenage girl lured a man into a deadly sex trap so her accomplices could steal his BMW, a court heard.

Ayodeji Habeeb Azeez, 22, thought he was meeting a 17-year-old girl he had chatted to over Snapchat and social media when he drove to a car park in Anerley, south-east London, on November 4 last year, reports metro.news.

Instead he was set upon by a gang of five, including the girl, and suffered 16 stab wounds to his torso, back and shoulders. He managed to stagger out of the car park and collapsed, the Old Bailey was told. Read more

EFCC recovers charms, fake currencies from brothers, eight others (Newtelegraph)

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested two brothers and eight others in Ilorin, Kwara State for alleged internet fraud.

The EFCC also recovered charms, smart phones, laptops and fake currencies from the suspects.

The siblings are Tolu Ogundowole and Tosin Ogundowole.

Others are Paul Chibuzor, David Daniels, Agwu Goodness, Olayiwola Azeez, Olamide Ijisesan, Chilaka Dickson, Abdullahi Abubakar and Temitope Bambo. Read more

Nigeria to import doctors from Europe, United States (Guardian)

Health Minister Osagie Ehanire said yesterday that Nigeria would employ the services of medical experts from Europe and America.

The disclosure came at a time that some stakeholders are expressing concern about the migration of health workers from the country.

Ehanire said officials of the ministry were in touch with foreign embassies for specialists who would work in hospitals across the country for specified periods. Read more

Court remands man for allegedly kidnapping, raping 2 teenagers (DailyTrust)

A Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court on Thursday ordered that a 27-year-old man Yusuf Yahaya, who allegedly kidnapped and raped two teenagers, be remanded in a correctional facility pending legal advice. Magistrate Lukman Sidi, did not take the plea of Yahaya, on grounds that the court lacked jurisdiction to hear the matter. Sidi, ordered the police to forward the case file to the Department of Public Prosecution(DPP) for advice. Read more

Oyo Assembly passes anti-open grazing law (Nation)

Oyo House of Assembly has passed the anti-open grazing bill into law, says it will foster peace and promote agricultural business in the state.

The bill, which was passed at its Thursday plenary, is to avoid continuous damages and end lost of lives and unquantifiable investment to constant clashes between herders and crop farmers.

The Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu said the commission will save N300 million for scheduling to hold governorship and senatorial elections in Kogi consecutively. How border closure changed Nigeria’s economic indices (Guardian)

Federal Government’s latest border policy, which altered the flow of commodities- legally and illegally, particularly through the Benin Republic, has in the immediate, changed some economic fundamentals.

The government had in August, ordered partial closure of land borders to curtail smuggling of rice and other products into the country, citing non-compliance of neighbouring countries with ECOWAS protocols on the transit of goods.

California: Power cuts expected as Kincade wildfires rage (BBC)

More than half a million people are facing power cuts in California as wildfires rage through the state.

The Kincade fire has engulfed 10,000 acres of land and has not been contained, says the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

It is being driven by strong north winds and is moving south, a California Fire spokeswoman said.

The worst of the winds are expected to arrive on Thursday afternoon. Read more

Asaba and Uyo Stadiums are being considered by the Nigeria Football Federation as the venue for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier between the Super Eagles and the Squirrels of Benin, slated for November 11. A top source of the NFF made this known on Thursday in an interview with Soccernet.ng, where it was revealed that the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba State and the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo had been tipped to host the qualifier. Although a final decision has not been made, however, it was confirmed to Soccernet.ng that plans were underway to announce the venue before the end of next week

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have dropped by one spot in the FIFA World ranking for the month of October to now place as world 35th country. In the ranking table from the world football governing body, FIFA on Thursday, Nigeria garnered 1,481 points as against 1482 recorded in September.
