Father, son, 1 other die retrieving phone in Kano

A 60-year-old man identified as Malam Danjuma, his son Ibrahim Danjuma (35) and Aminu Gaye (35) have been confirmed dead after been rescued unconscious from a toilet pit in Yar Gwanda Village in Tsanyawa Local Government Area of Kano State.

The trio and one other Abbas Alasan (28) were reportedly trapped in the pit while trying to retrieve a fallen phone from the pit on Sunday.

Spokesperson of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi, who confirmed the incident to LEADERSHIP on Monday said, Alasan was rescued alive while the other three were rescued unconscious but were later confirmed dead at a hospital in Bichi.

According to Abdullahi, the branch of the Service at the local government area on Sunday 21st April, 2024, received an emergency call at about 11:00 am from Aminu Yar Gwanda, who informed them about the incident.

He said on their arrival at the scene, they found one Malam Danjuma, popularly known as Black (60) had entered the pit to extract his fallen handset but was unable to come out, and his son Ibrahim Danjuma (35), in an effort to save his father also got trapped.

Abdullahi went on to say a third person Aminu T Gaye (35), who also tried to save them failed likewise the fouth victim Abbas Alasan (28).

He however said, three of the victims rescued unconscious were handed over to Divisional Police Officer at Tsanyawa Police Division.

SP Iro Lado who took them to Bichi Special Hospital for medical attention later confirmed the death of the three victims while the fouth was still alive.
