FCT Police rescue 14 hostages, kill abductor; scores wounded

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police command says it has rescued 14 abducted persons at Ukya village in Nasarawa State, bordering Abuja.

The victims were rescued by operatives of the anti-kidnapping unit and the Rubochi Division Police Headquarters at about 5:30 on Wednesday.

FCT Police Public Relations Officer Josephine Adeh, who made the announcement on Thursday, said the hostages who were rescued unhurt have since been reunited with their families.

Adeh said in a press statement:

“The combined team, acting on credible intelligence stormed a Kidnapper’s den located at Ukya village via Nasarawa state bordering FCT, on sighting the police operatives, the hoodlums engaged the open fire on the police operatives which resulted in gun duel, the police operatives neutralised one of the kidnappers as the rest scampered to nearby forest with various degrees of bullet wounds.

“The hostages who were rescued unhurt have since been reunited with their loved one.

The Commissioner of Police, FCT, CP Haruna G Garba, psc, wishes to reiterate his commitment to rid FCT of Criminality in all its manifestations and maintenance of peace for all and sundry.
