Felabration 2019 kicks off October 14 with Chimamanda and Bobi Wine

Felabration, the annual celebration and memorial in honour of Afrobeat maestro and music legend Fela Anikulapo Kuti returns this October with an exciting lineup of music and thought leadership events.

Felabration which is in its 21st year is an annual festival of music and arts commemorating the life and times of Nigeria’s foremost musical icon,  Fela Kuti. In celebrating Fela, the organisers of Felabration seek to empower the people through art, dance, music and intellectual discourse with the belief that together we shall succeed.

This year’s celebration will proceed under the theme: ‘“FROM LAGOS WITH LOVE’ and will run from October 14 – 20th 2019.  

Orange prize winning author, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie will set the ball rolling on Monday October 14 2019 at 11am with in an afternoon of intellectual discussions with the theme ‘Teacher don’t teach me nonsense’ at NECA Hall, Hakeem Balogun street, Ikeja. She will be exchanging ideas with Ugandan opposition politician, Bobi Wine, UK based conscious artist, Akala, psychiatrist and ideas man Prof. Akin Oyebode. NOMA award winning author and Caine prize judge, Sefi Atta will moderate.

In the last seven years, Freedom Park Lagos has become a leading partner venue for Felabration, catering to the needs of an elite audience not at home with the populist ambience of the New Afrika Shrine which is home to Felabration.

Activities at Freedom Park will include premium entertainment and reception over one week with live music performances, exhibitions and fanfare from both Nigerian and Foreign artistes at the Festival. Each event is expected to host more than 2,000 attendees and is targeted at guests from home and abroad. Musical performances will kick off at 7pm daily.

Guests at Felabration@Freedom Park will enjoy 7 days of Live Music concerts featuring several Nigerian and Foreign Artistes like Omawumi, Ego, Maka, Wole Oni, Phebean Sax, Dede Mabiaku, Q-dot and Gloria Ibru amongst others.

There will be a Special VIP lounge for attendees with VIP tickets.

Four Exhibitions will be showcased around the Park with focus on FEMI KUTI by Bolaji Alonge, Photographer, Eyes Of A Lagos Boy; COFFEE ART by Ekene Ngige; BEAUTIFUL, featuring works by Chidynma Ochu & Ronke Komolafe and curated by Kennii Ekundayo as well as COLLAGE ART by Sylvester Aguddah of Sylverscreen Arts.
