A car theft suspect, Ojo Azeez, currently detained by the police, over allegation of removing vehicles from park with the use of master keys, has sworn that if forgiven, he would not engage in stealing anymore.

Azeez was arrested by the operatives of the Inspector General of Police, IGP, MohammedAbubakar Adamu’s Intelligence Response Team (IRT), led by Abba Kyari, a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP).

Investigation revealed that the police, acting on an intelligence report about a syndicate that specialised in forging documents of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) to dispose of stolen cars, which they often remove from park. Read more

Siblings use EFCC name to extort money from fraudsters (Punch)

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ibadan zonal office, Oyo State, has arrested two brothers for extorting money from Internet fraudsters with a promise to shield them from being arrested by the commission.

The siblings – Olatunji Joe Beyioku (35) and Oluwayomi Beyioku (37) – were arrested in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital, on Friday during a sting operation. Read more

The Anambra State Police Command says it has smashed a kidnapping syndicate terrorising the state, and arrested two suspected top members.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Haruna Mohammed, a superintendent of police (SP) said Saturday that the arrest followed a fierce gun battle with the criminals.

Mohammed said that police also recovered one revolver pistol, four live ammunition, and a victim’s body. Read more

60-year-old Catholic priest dies in parish church fire (Punch)

A 60-year old Catholic priest, Rv Fr. Edmond Nwagbal, was on Saturday reportedly burnt beyond recognition in a fire outbreak at St. Peter Claver Catholic Parish Nnewichi in Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

It was gathered that the inferno, which occurred at about 4:00 a.m., affected parts of the church’s residential building.

The deceased, it was learnt, was engulfed by the fire in his sleep. Read more

Bayelsa election: Dickson accuses security agencies of conniving with APC (Punch)

The Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson has accused security agencies of conniving with the All Progressives Congress to rig the state governorship election.

The governor called on the Independent National Electoral Commission to cancel all the areas where electoral materials were hijacked by suspected political thugs.

Kogi gov election: Journalists attacked in Ayetoro, car damaged (Punch)

Some journalists who are covering the governorship election in Ayetoro area of Kogi State were attacked by some youths after thugs ran off with ballot boxes at Ward 01, Unit 004, where Dino Melaye had earlier voted.

Thugs numbering about 10 invaded the polling unit in two Hilux vans and a Honda Civic car, shooting into the air and targeting the ballot boxes.

The ballot boxes were eventually taken away, while some boys in the community chased the vehicles with no success. Read more

Electricity: Abuja to experience total blackout Saturday (Vanguard)

The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, has disclosed that some part of Abuja will experience total power outage tomorrow.

The outage which will last for four hours, according to the company is targeted towards carrying out its annual system maintenance.

Man exhumes parents’ bodies to exchange bones for motorbike (Nation)

A man has been arrested for allegedly digging up his parents’ bodies so he can exchange their bones for a motorbike.

Police in Mozambique, Africa have detained a man in the northern Nampula province on suspicion of exhuming the bodies of his parents and an uncle.

The man is reported to have removed their bones in one night after a businessman promised him a motorcycle and more than $300 (£234) in cash. Read more
