Kenyan Rapper Femi one has been crowned the best female rapper of the year 2022 in the AFRIMMA awards ceremony held in Dallas, Texas on November 19, 2022.
The awards went down during the weekend and saw three other East African artists walk away with awards.
Following the win, Femi One, arguably the most consistent and dedicated female rapper in Africa, said that her hard work has finally been recognized.
“We won!!! Best Female Rapper In Africa. The first East African Female rapper to take it home, it’s such a big pat on the back for my team and I for all the work we’ve put in throughout the years,” she wrote in part.
“We do not depend on clout, we work so hard and that is why we keep getting gigs and being relevant.”
She further said that her win is a true sign that hard work truly pays and other artists should use it as motivation.
“This should be an encouragement for all the up-and-coming Female rappers! There is a spot for you in this industry, keep building, keep doing it, they are watching. Thank you all so much for the continued support,” she added.
Reacting to her win, rapper King Kaka, who has signed her, said that it was a well-deserved win.
Diamond Platnumz was also crowned Best Live Act in Africa.
Other artists who won an award from the East African region are Wasafi signee Zuchu who won the best female artiste in East Africa and Next Level Music president Rayvanny took home the award for the best male artiste in East Africa. (SoundCity)
