FG withdraws adulterated PMS from market (Tribune)

In view of public outcry on the proliferation of adulterated Petroleum Motor Spirit (PMS) in circulation, the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) said the flawed product has been withdrawn from the market.

It said the product call back included trucks in transit.

The Authority in a statement obtained by Tribune Online on Tuesday confirmed that the methanol content in the withdrawn products was above Nigeria’s specification.

It explained that Methanol is a regular additive in Petrol and is usually blended in an acceptable quantity.

The statement partly read: “The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (The Authority) wishes to inform the general public that – limited quantity of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as Petrol, with methanol quantities above Nigeria’s specification, was discovered in the supply chain.” Read more

A teenage girl, Bukola who is presently nursing a baby has revealed that she was hypnotised,  raped and impregnated by Isaac Anibaba, a Prophet in the church she attends with her mother in the Surulere area of Lagos State.

According to Bukola, “I can’t recollect most of the incident that happened on the night I lost my virginity. But I remember vividly the threat from Isaac Anibaba, a Prophet at the Church of the Lord, Aladura.”

“He said that I shouldn’t tell anyone or I would die. But after I missed my menses, I went to tell him. He started giving me herbs for abortion, but the herbs didn’t work.”

Recounting how it all started, Bukola alleged that Anibaba called and told her that God revealed to him in a vision that she would fail in her educational pursuits. She immediately told him that since that was the case, there was no sense in wasting her time trying to get an education. She told him that she would look for where to apply as an apprentice hairstylist. Read more

FAAN appeals for patience over baggage processing system at Lagos airport (Punch)

The Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria has appealed for patience in the course of maintenance work on the conveyor belts at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.

This is as the Agency dismissed reports(Not by The Punch) suggesting a breakdown of the baggage processing system at the airport.

This was disclosed in a statement signed by the General Manager, Corporate Affairs, FAAN, Henrietta Yakubu, on Wednesday.

The statement read, “Contrary to misinformation presently making the rounds online as depicted by some pictures posted suggesting a breakdown in the baggage processing system at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria wishes to inform passengers and the general public that what is going on is routine maintenance of the conveyor belts. Oromoni: Pathologist clarifies autopsy result of Septicaemia as cause of death (ThisDay)

At the inquest into the death of 12-year-old Sylvester Oromoni, a student of Dowen College, the Chief Pathologist, Dr. S.S Soyemi, has clarified his autopsy report that cause of death was Septicaemia.

The pathologist said although the cause of death was septicaemia because Lobar Pneumonia caused the Septicaemia.

In the written deposition sworn under oath at the Lagos State Magistrate Court Registry, Ogba Lagos, on January 31, 2022, Dr. Soyemi, who is a Consultant Pathologist of the Department of Pathology and Forensic Medicine, The Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) Ikeja, Lagos, listed out the processes he undertook for the autopsy.

The deposition read thus:”That on the 14th of December 2021, I performed a second post mortem examination on the body of one Oromoni Sylvester at the LASUTH Morgue in the presence of the listed persons on the Post Mortem Report. Read more

Declare state of emergency on ritual killings —Reps to FG (Punch)

The House of Representatives on Wednesday said a state of emergency on ritual killings in the country should be declared by the Federal Government.

The lawmakers also called for a campaign against the menace, saying the effort of parents, schools, religious leaders and the media is needed.

This is following a motion sponsored by Deputy Minority Leader of the House, Toby Okechukwu, who lamented that ritual killings have taken a new dimension in recent times.

He said, “There’s an upsurge of reported ritual killings with increasing cases of abductions and missing persons in different parts of the country, which in most cases, the culprits also rape, maim, kill and obtain sensitive body parts of unsuspecting victims for rituals. Read more

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has assured Nigerians that it has intensified efforts at increasing the supply of petrol into the market in order to bridge any unforeseen supply gap. This is as the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) said yesterday that the source of the premium motor spirit PMS), commonly known as Petrol, containing methanol quantities above Nigeria’s specification has been identified and the circulation contained.

Methanol is a regular additive in Petrol and usually blended in an acceptable quantity. However, when added in quantities higher than specification, the petrol becomes harmful to engines.

The NMDPRA, in a statement yesterday, said “The “Authority wishes to inform the general public that a limited quantity of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as Petrol, with methanol quantities above Nigeria’s specification was discovered in the supply chain.

“To ensure vehicular and equipment safety, the limited quantity of the impacted product has been isolated and withdrawn from the market, including the loaded trucks in transit. Read more

Kogi health agency denies cash-for-Covid-19-vaccination allegation (Guardian)

The Kogi State Primary Health Care Development Agency (KSPHCDA) has denied reports of alleged demand for money from clients by COVID-19 administrators for vaccines.

An NGO, the Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) at a news conference in Bauchi State, alleged that vaccine administrators in Kogi were allegedly demanding money from clients before vaccinating them.

A statement by the Executive Director of the agency, Dr Abubakar Yakubu, on Tuesday in Lokoja, said the report was misleading and far from the reality of COVID-19 vaccination in the state.

He stressed that the report was most likely not true as the NGO failed to back up its purported findings with actual facts, and without using appropriate channels. Read more

Seven people have been killed in Mmaahu Community in Ohaji Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State in a war involving two rival cult gangs.

Daily Trust gathered that the war is between De-Gbam and De-Well cult groups.

Police said that 20 armed men led by one Ossy with their faces masked had on 08/02/2022 at about 10 pm, invaded the community and went to the house of the victims and shot them dead.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, CSP Mike Abattam, identified the victims as Charles Mgbarahor, Funky Anane, Charity Nwachukwu, Edeme Okoro, Isaac Ojenya , Ndubuisi Nwabusi, and Junior Ifeyinwoke. Read more

Nollywood debuts 1st film on a train in Transit (Guardian)

Nollywood has debuted the first shot of a film done on a train. Filming for the project, “Conversation in Transit” commenced on Saturday 5th February at the Mobolaji Johnson Rail Station at Yaba, Lagos state.

The producer, Rogers Ofime, in an interview described the project as the first of its kind with over 95% of the film set on the train and an intention to premiere the film on a moving train. This will include scenes from the Lagos route to Ibadan that begins from arrival, transit and departure.

While the director Robert Peters described this choice of film location as a novel experience. “This is a new process for me. I am excited, I am happy, and I can’t wait to share it with you guys out there.”

The film narrates a love story around 3 couples Hajara, an event planner; Ini, a career woman; and Adeola as they set out on a train ride with an abusive fiance, a cheating and an alcoholic repentant husband. The star-studded film has Richard Mofe Damijo (RMD), Rahama Sadau, Uzee Usman. Read more

Amazon backs Britain with first UK film and TV production hub at Pinewood (EveningStandard)

Amazon has signed a deal to establish its first dedicated film and TV production site in the UK.

Prime Video, Amazon’s streaming arm, is taking 450,000 sq ft of space at Pinewood’s Shepperton Studios just outside London as it ramps up production in the UK.

The “multi million-pound” deal is believed to span 10 years, though exact figures weren’t given. It is the company’s first long-term lease in Britain.

Chancellor Rishi Sunak said the deal “will drive growth and create jobs with thousands of opportunities for the producers, actors and directors of tomorrow.” Read more

Stuart Ford’s AGC Studios is launching sales on Chris Pine’s directorial debut Poolman, which the Star Trek actor will star in alongside Oscar nominees Annette Being and Danny DeVito.

In the movie, Pine will play Darren Barrenman, a hapless dreamer and would-be philosopher who spends his days looking after the pool of the Tahitian Tiki apartment block in sunny Los Angeles and crashing city council meetings with his neighbors Jack and Diane (DeVito, Bening). When Barrenman uncovers the greatest water heist in LA history since Chinatown he makes uneasy alliances with a beautiful and connected femme fatale while following every lead he can with corrupt city officials, burned out Hollywood types, and mysterious benefactors – all in the name of protecting his precious Los Angeles. Expect some fun cameos and supporting cast to be added.

The mystery-comedy will be produced by Pine, Stacey Sher (Django Unchained) for Shiny Penny Productions, Patty Jenkins (Wonder Woman) for Wicious Pictures, and Ian Gotler. Nipsey Hussle was tragically killed outside of the Marathon Clothing store in March 2019, bringing his brief 33 years on earth to a cruel end. Nelly has apologised after an explicit video was uploaded to his Instagram Stories.

A clip of the “Hot In Herre” rapper receiving oral sex was shared on the social media app on Tuesday (8 February).

The video was deleted shortly after. However, the footage has since made its way to other social media sites.

Super Eagles’ Interim Technical Adviser, Augustine Eguavoen, says the appointment of former teammate Emmanuel Amuneke to assist him at the senior national team is “a very good development”.

Eguavoen told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ilorin on Wednesday that the coming of Amuneke would be a great addition to the quality of the team’s coaching.

Conte open to idea of reuniting with Eriksen at Tottenham (RTE)

Reigning Australian Open women’s singles champion Ash Barty is set to return to the court at the Indian Wells Masters in March.

Barty is sitting out the St. Petersburg Ladies Trophy, the first WTA event since the Australian Open, and is highly unlikely to feature at any of the handful of tournaments that remain in February.

According to a statement from the tournament, the world No.1 will at the latest return to the court in California at the Indian Wells Masters, a WTA1000 event that begins on March 9.

Christmas wrapped up nearly two months ago, but Floyd Mayweather still did his best Santa impression outside of the Lakers game on Tuesday night … doling out $100 bills to kids!

The legendary boxer filmed the super generous act … saying “I’m all about giving back to the kids” as he forked over cash to youngsters who were trying to sell candy bars at Crypto.com Arena.

In total, Floyd handed over $400 or $500 to the kids … and he didn’t blink an eye parting ways with the money — adding, “The kids out here selling candy, they ain’t doing nothing wrong.”
