Fire guts warehouse in Lagos (Punch)

A fire incident occurred at Flux Logistics warehouse in the Ikeja Area of Lagos State and left a property destroyed.

It was gathered that no casualty was recorded.

The fire affected the company’s warehouse located on Sapara Street, off Oba Akran Avenue, Ikeja, where Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service battled to contain it.

It was reported that the fire started around 08:58am on Sunday morning. Read more 

Bandits invade female hostel in Zamfara, abduct students (DailyTrust)

Bandits invaded a female hostel of the Federal University, Gusau, Zamfara State, on Sunday.

The criminals stormed Sabon Gida village in Bungudu and broke into the rented female hostel of the university where they locked up the two civilian guards and dispossessed them of their handsets before abducting two female students of Microbiology Department of the university.

Confirming the incident, Police Public Relations Officer in Zamfara, SP Muhammad Shehu, said the police Tactical Team moved to the scene, but the hoodlums had already fled with the victims to a yet to be identified destination.

He said the Commissioner of Police had further deployed reinforcement to complement the ongoing rescue operation. Read more 

NDLEA declares prophetess, celebrity couple wanted over drug trafficking (Vanguard)

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA on Sunday said it has declared a Port Harcourt, Rivers State based popular prophetess and founder of Christ Power Adoration Ministries, Faith Ugochi and a celebrity couple: Igho Ubiribo and Danielle Simba Allen wanted for recruiting teenage girls into drug trafficking.

Femi Babafemi, Director of Media and Advocacy in a statement said the prophetess and the celebrity couple serve as the arrowheads of an international illicit drugs syndicate operating from Los Angeles, USA.

He said, “The lid was blown off the cartel when NDLEA operatives at the NAHCO import shed of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja Lagos intercepted a consignment of 32.70 kilograms of Loud, a strong variant of cannabis concealed in cartons of used wears on Wednesday 16th November 2022. Police nab 2 suspects over alleged murder of constable in Niger (Guardian)

Two suspects are police net in Niger over the alleged murder of a police constable, Mr Nasiru Yusuf.

They were arrested in Minima village in Lavun Local Government Area of the state over the alleged murder.

Police spokesman in the state, DSP Wasiu Abiodun told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Minna on Sunday that the murder took place when assailants attacked two police operatives on duty in the area. Read more

The House of Representatives member elect for Ideato North, South Federal Constituency of Imo State, Ikenga Ugochinyere has called on the 

Department of State Services (DSS), to immediately release the Eze Igbo of Ajao Estate, Lagos, Fredrick Nwajagu, who was arrested in a midnight raid by the agency and the Nigeria Police over his comment of inviting IPOB to Lagos to protect the Igbos.

The Eze had allegedly on Friday vowed to invite members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to Lagos to secure properties of Igbo people in the state. Read more

4 injured as traditionalists attack worshippers inside mosque (Vanguard)

Four persons were reportedly injured as traditional religion worshippers attacked some Muslims while praying in a mosque in Ile-Ile, Osun state.

It was gathered that the Muslim worshippers were inside the mosque on Thursday evening preparing for the 4pm (Asr) prayer when the traditionalists, who were carrying out the pro ritual, attacked the mosque.

Saturday Vanguard learnt that traditionalists in the town had on Wednesday announced that Oro cult will be observed in some parts of Ife between 2pm to 7pm, thereby warning residents to steer clear of the areas. Read more

UNICEF donates therapeutic diets for child nutrition, in Bayelsa (Guardian)

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), has donated therapeutic diets to lactating and expectant mothers (pregnant women) in Bayelsa.

Making the donations at the Primary Health Centre, Sagbama town, headquarters of the Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa, the Head, UNICEF, Port Harcourt field Office, Dr Anselem Audu, leading staff members of the UN agency, stated that the essence of the donations was to ameliorate the impact of the shortage of adequate nutrition for children in the area.

Customs seize 27 containers of vegetable oil, others in Rivers (Punch)

Operatives of the Area 2 Command One of the Nigeria Customs Service in Rivers State have confiscated a total of 27 containers over violations of the country’s laws and guidelines on imports.

The Area Comptroller, Baba Imam, disclosed this on Friday during a press conference at the Customs facility in Onne, Rivers.

Imam said 26 of the containers were seized while one was detained over infractions ranging from contraband goods, false declaration, lack of end-user certificate requirement, and National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control permit/licence, among others. Read more

Pope Francis released from hospital following stay for bronchitis (UPI)

Pope Francis was released from Gemelli Hospital in Rome on Saturday after two days of treatment for bronchitis, the Vatican announced.

Francis greeted several hospital officials who had helped him during his brief stay as he left the facility, according to official Vatican media.

The 86-year-old pontiff stopped his car briefly to greet well wishers and prayed with a couple who had lost their daughter during the night. Read more

NBA, players strike 7-year collective bargaining agreement, pending ratification (CBC)

The NBA will have labour peace for years to come.

The league and its players came to terms early Saturday on a seven-year collective bargaining agreement, the NBA announced. It is still pending ratification, though that process is almost certainly no more than a formality.

The deal will begin this summer and will last at least through the 2028-29 season. Either side can opt out then; otherwise, it will last through 2029-30. Read more
