Some miscreants have been arrested by officials of the Lagos State Government for allegedly charging residents N100 to access a makeshift bridge along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.
It was gathered that the incident occurred at the Tradefair under bridge following the flood which submerged a major part of Lagos.
A 54-second clip showed how some hoodlums were extorting residents before they could access an alternate route at the Tradefair under bridge. Read more
Lagos calls for calm after Wednesday’s torrential rainfall (Channels)
Lagos State Government on Wednesday called for calm from residents over the flash flood caused by the incessant rainfalls experienced throughout the state in the early hours of Wednesday.
The state Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, in a statement, explained that Lagos has experienced about 9 hours of nonstop rainfall since the early hours of Wednesday.
He added that this is coupled with heavy rainfall which the state has been experiencing on a daily basis since last week, resulting in the level rise of the Lagos lagoon. Read more

The Delta House of Assembly on Wednesday considered a bill for a law to prohibit human trafficking in the state.
The bill, which is being sponsored by the State Executive, was presented for second reading at plenary in Asaba.
Leading the debate, the Majority Leader, Mr Emeka Nwaobi (PDP-Aniocha North), says the proposed law seeks to protect victims of human trafficking as well as help them get justice. Read more

Japan’s top court orders government to compensate disabled people forced to undergo sterilization (ABC)
In a landmark decision, Japan’s Supreme Court ordered the government Wednesday to pay suitable compensation to about a dozen victims who were forcibly sterilized under a now-defunct Eugenics Protection Law that was designed to eliminate offspring of people with disabilities.
An estimated 25,000 people were sterilized between the 1950s and 1970s without consent to “prevent the birth of poor-quality descendants” under law, described by plaintiffs’ lawyers as “the biggest human rights violation in the post-war era” in Japan.
The supreme court said the 1948 eugenics law was unconstitutional and rejected the government’s claim that the 20-year statute of limitations should prevent it from paying restitution. Read more

Attorneys for the last two remaining survivors of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre asked the Oklahoma Supreme Court on Tuesday to reconsider the case they dismissed last month and called on the Biden administration to help the two women seek justice.
Viola Fletcher, 110, and Lessie Benningfield Randle, 109, are the last known survivors of one of the single worst acts of violence against Black people in U.S. history. As many as 300 Black people were killed; more than 1,200 homes, businesses, schools and churches were destroyed; and thousands were forced into internment camps overseen by the National Guard when a white mob, including some deputized by authorities, looted and burned the Greenwood District, also known as Black Wall Street.
In a petition for rehearing, the women asked the court to reconsider its 8-1 vote upholding the decision of a district court judge in Tulsa last year to dismiss the case. Read more
