Flood: We can’t sleep whenever it rains – Lagos residents (Independent)

Residents of Aboru in Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State on Monday woke up to count loses caused by flood, following a heavy rain that lasted from Sunday night to early hours of Monday. As a result of the flood many residents could not sleep in the night. NAN observed that residents stood in batches at the frontage of their houses and shops lamenting the havoc caused by the rain while some were seen carrying belongings affected by the rain outside. Fayemi inaugurates new appointees (Nation)

The Governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi, on Monday inaugurated four new members of the State Executive Council with a charge on them to immediately swing into action and offer their best to the people. Speaking at a brief ceremony held at the Osuntokun Pavilion, Government House Grounds, Dr. Fayemi said the new cabinet members were appointed based on their track record, expertise and experience, and as such they must immediately settle down in office and inject new ideas to reinvigorate and re-energize government machinery to the overall benefit of the people. Eight policemen, one other wounded as woman blows herself up (Punch)

Authorities said nine people, including eight policemen, were wounded when a woman blew herself up in central Tunis on Monday. Spokesman for the Tunisian Interior Ministry described the incident as a “terrorist explosion.” A witness reported an explosion on the central Habib Bourguiba avenue where Police were cordoning off the area near the capital’s landmark Municipal Theatre. We owe no personnel allowance, says Police (Nation)

The Nigeria Police Force has said no personnel in Anambra State or any other part of the country is owed any allowance. The reaction came after an online media reported that some Police personnel in Anambra State threatened to embark on strike over unpaid allowances. Ekiti lawmaker dies three days after gun attack (Nation)

Three days after he was shot by suspected gunmen, a member of Ekiti State House of Assembly, Mr. Michael Adedeji, is dead. Adedeji was shot at about 2.00 am on Friday while driving in his car. He was rushed to Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH), Ado-Ekiti, for immediate treatment before he was later referred to Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido-Ekiti. Read more

Ex-speaker, others arrested over alleged murder (Guardian)

The police have arrested a former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr Joko Pelumi, and 49 others over alleged attack and killing of a police officer attached to the anti-cultism unit. Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Imohimi Edgal, told newsmen in Ikeja that the former speaker, along with others, attacked and killed Akingboju Akindele, a deputy superintendent of police, while trying to effect the arrest of some suspected cultists. Air pollution: Half a million early deaths in Europe despite progress (BBC)

Despite progress, air pollution causes more than 500,000 premature deaths in Europe every year, the European Environment Agency (EEA) has warned. Its report said pollution levels were slowly improving in EU countries but remained far higher than EU and World Health Organization (WHO) standards. Air pollution is the main cause of premature death in 41 European nations and remains “too high”, the EEA said. Read more

China mining accident death toll rises to 21 (Nation)

The death toll from a mining accident in Eastern China has risen to 21 after the last miner was found dead on Monday, state media reported. A total of 22 people were trapped underground after a rock burst in a coal mine in Shandong province on Oct. 20. Only one person was rescued, authorities said. Rock bursts happen when the opening of a deep mine shaft reduces pressure, causing the rock to explode, and are one of the biggest hazards for miners. Read more

Khashoggi murder: Saudi prosecutor heading case arrives in Istanbul (Independent)

The Saudi public prosecutor heading the investigation into the killing of Jamal Khashoggi arrived in Istanbul overnight, the state-owned Anadolu news agency said on Monday. The prosecutor’s arrival, comes ahead of expected talks with the Istanbul chief prosecutor. Leicester City owner’s wife and son visit stadium after crash (BBC)

The wife and son of Leicester City’s owner have laid a wreath at the club’s stadium after he was killed alongside four others in a helicopter crash. Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, two members of staff, the pilot and a passenger, all died after the aircraft spiralled out of control outside the ground. The club’s first team and youth squad are also at the King Power Stadium. A team investigating Saturday night’s crash has recovered the aircraft’s digital flight data recorder. Read more

Web designer arrested for defiling maid (Nation)

The Police in Ogun State have arrested an Abeokuta based website designer, Abiodun Amosu(42 ), for defiling his 16 year old housemaid. Amosu who lives at the Ibara housing Estate  was said to have dragged the girl into his bedroom last Thursday while his wife was away in Lagos and allegedly defiled her. The Police Public Relations Officer in Ogun state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, on Sunday, stated that the suspect was arrested following a complaint  at the Ibara Police division by the Benue state born  victim, who was accompanied to the station by a member of the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR).
