‘I got father’s permission to rape, impregnate teenage daughters’ (DailyTrust)

 A 28-year-old man that the Gender Unit of the Lagos State Police Command said was arrested for allegedly raping and impregnating two teenage sisters has said he did the act with the permission of the girls’ father. Sources at the Ikotun police division, which is handling the matter, alleged that the suspect, one Nduka Anyanwu, had been having carnal knowledge of the girls, 13 and 17 years old, since they were in primary school. Interrogators at the station told our correspondent that, Anyanwu, however, said he engaged the sisters in sex with the permission of their father, Christian Onyechi. The suspect was said to have been arrested yesterday after a pregnancy test that the girls’ mother insisted must be done on them showed they were pregnant. The police said the girls told them Anyanwu had been sexually molesting them since they were in primary school. The girls’ father was understood to have been arrested. Read more

Infidelity: Police detain woman for killing live-in lover (Punch)

The Lagos State Police Command has started investigation into the death of a 25-year-old man, Auwal Sulaiman, who was allegedly stabbed to death by his live-in lover, Precious Okogbua, at their residence in the Liverpool area of Apapa, Lagos State.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, said the suspect had been arrested and the case transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Yaba, for investigation

He said, “On August 1, 2020, one Musa Abubakar, Manager, Island Village, off Liverpool, Apapa, came to the station and reported that on the same day, he received a phone call that one Precious Okogbua, stabbed her lover, Awal Sulaiman, in the neck with a knife.

“The victim was rushed to the General Hospital in Apapa, where he was confirmed dead. Upon close observation of the corpse, there was a mark of violence in his neck.

“We have transferred the suspect to the SCIID, Yaba, for discreet investigation and we have deposited the corpse in a mortuary for an autopsy.” Read more

Jeep lands businessmen in court (DailyTrust)

The Intelligence Response Team (IRT) of the Inspector-General of Police has filed charges against two businessmen and their companies before a Federal High Court over allegations of fraud and forgery to the tune of N15 million. The men, Oyewole Kole-Jones and Usman Onoja, will be arraigned in court on October 6, 2020 alongside their firms, Mackjob Real Estate Limited and Lovonous Microfinance Bank. IRT prosecutor, Mr Nosa Watson Uhumwnagho, alleged that the defendants conspired to commit the offences on December 19, 2018, at 6, Soji Adepegba Close, Off Allen Avenue, Ikeja, Lagos. The defendants were alleged to have fraudulently obtained a Lexus GX460 2015 model registration number KTU 944 F0, valued at N15 million. Read more

Lagos artistes accuse police of extortion, sexual harassment (Punch)

Two Lagos-based artistes, David Marvellous and Damilola Oladimeji, have accused some personnel of the Lagos State Police Command of alleged extortion and sexual harassment.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the artistes were returning home on July 28, 2020, after buying food when policemen from the Langbasa Police Station allegedly accosted them on their estate at Badore, in the Ajah area of the state.

The duo told our correspondent that after their arrest, the policemen went round the estate, apprehending innocent residents while threatening to shoot anyone who resisted them.

Marvellous, who alleged that one of the policemen sexually harassed him, stated that the cop also slapped him on the face when he (Marvellous) queried his action.

He alleged that the cops released them the following morning after collecting N10,000 for bail.

Marvellous said, “My friend and I went out to buy food around 10.30pm. On our way back, we were accosted by strange armed men in a van. They were in mufti and had guns. Because we had never seen or experienced anything like that before on the estate, the first thing that came to our mind was to run.

“We ran and they chased us. They caught up with us, collected our phones and bundled us into their van. We later realised that they were policemen when they kept pointing their guns in our faces and threatening that they could end our lives right there. Read more

Police arrest Lagos driver for allegedly beating passenger to death (Punch)

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a commercial driver, Habeeb Quadri, for allegedly assaulting a passenger, Emmanuel James, in the Surulere area of the state, resulting in his death.

Quadri was arrested by the Bode Thomas Police Division on Thursday with eyewitnesses claiming that the driver hit James in the chest over an issue bordering on money during which the deceased slumped. The scuffle occurred at the Bode Thomas Junction.

Our correspondent was told that the incident caused confusion at the junction as other passengers and passersby tried to revive James to no avail.

They reportedly thereafter prevented Quadri from escaping from the scene. Read more

Customs in Seme intercepts 136,350 litres of petrol, 79 used cars (Guardian)

The Seme Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) intercepted 79 used vehicles known as ‘Tokunbo’ and 136,350 liters of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) called petrol in the last six months.

The Acting Customs Area Comptroller, Mr Chedi Wada, told newsmen in Seme on Wednesday that the command made a total 824 interceptions with Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N413.4 million.

Wada said that the command remitted the sum of N22, 477, 920 into the federation account as revenue from January to June.

“The revenue figure were proceeds realised from auction sales of seized perishables items, which is in line with Customs and Excise Management Act provision,” he said. Read more
