Globacom has announced its continued sponsorship of the Ojude Oba Festival for 2024 in a move that underscores its dedication to Nigeria’s rich cultural tapestry.
The leading telecommunications company made the announcement at a pre-event press conference held at the Awujale’s Palace in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.
Representing Globacom, Mr. Kazeem Kaka, highlighted the company’s ongoing commitment to celebrating and uplifting Nigerian traditions. “Our sponsorship of festivals is aimed at identifying with the cultures and traditions of the Nigerian people, being an indigenous company,” Kaka stated.
He stressed Globacom’s role in promoting tourism through the sponsorship of significant cultural events like Ojude Oba and the Ofala Festival of Onitsha Kingdom.
Kaka elaborated on the mutual benefits of Globacom’s partnership with the custodians of the Ojude Oba Festival, noting that the collaboration is a testament to the company’s dedication to preserving Nigeria’s cultural heritage. “It is our belief that our continued support for Ojude Oba will further strengthen the festival and entrench it as a world-class carnival, attracting tourists from across the globe,” he added. This year’s theme, “Unity and Harmony in Ijebuland…The Gift of Ojude Oba,” reflects the festival’s role in fostering community cohesion and celebrating the Ijebu people’s heritage.
The Chairman of the Ojude Oba Planning Committee, Chief Olu Okuboyejo, praised Globacom for its steadfast support. He highlighted that the festival not only celebrates cultural traditions but also addresses critical social, political, and economic issues, contributing to the overall development of Ijebuland.
As the principal sponsor for the 18th consecutive year, Globacom has solidified its reputation as a champion of cultural and traditional events in Nigeria. The Ojude Oba Festival, held annually two days after the Islamic Eid El-Kabir festival, continues to serve as a significant platform for community engagement and cultural preservation.
With its enduring support, Globacom is not only promoting tourism but also ensuring that the rich traditions of Ijebuland are celebrated and passed down through generations, further embedding the Ojude Oba Festival as a landmark event on Nigeria’s cultural calendar.
