Global Citizen and pgLang unite to launch “Move Afrika: A Global Citizen Experience” music tour across Africa

In a bid to address global inequities and promote health, equity and economic opportunity, renowned international advocacy organisation Global Citizen has joined forces with creative imprint pgLang to announce “Move Afrika: A Global Citizen Experience.”

According to a statement, this initiative aims to pioneer a unique international music touring circuit throughout the African continent, creating opportunities for local communities and artists while setting a new gold standard for entertainment touring events.

Kendrick Lamar to Headline Move Afrika: Rwanda Event

The inaugural event, Move Afrika: Rwanda, is set to take place on December 6, 2023, at the BK Arena in Kigali, Rwanda. The event will be headlined by Grammy Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning artiste Kendrick Lamar, who is also a co-founder of pgLang. Furthermore, pgLang will serve as the curator of Move Afrika for the next five years, from 2023 until 2028.

Addressing Inequities and Empowering Local Communities

Move Afrika represents Global Citizen’s latest initiative to address global inequities by creating job and entrepreneurship opportunities for Africa’s emerging generations. The annual series of world-class live events will showcase the best of Africa to the world, driving transformative investments within local communities and providing on-the-job skill development and training. This commitment will encourage international and regional artists to tour in the region, enhancing local capacity within host cities across the continent.

Expanding to Additional Countries

In partnership with the Rwanda Development Board, Kigali, Rwanda, will host Move Afrika every year for the next five years. The tour schedule is set to expand to include additional countries, aiming to reach five countries by 2025.

Citizen-Led Advocacy Campaign

Move Afrika: Rwanda will not only feature a spectacular music event but also a citizen-led advocacy campaign that calls for urgent action and bold commitments from world leaders on significant issues across the continent. These key issues include increased funding for health, particularly for women and girls, addressing the climate crisis’s impact on food security, providing access to economic opportunities for future generations, and encouraging civic participation.

Building on a Legacy of Impactful Events

Move Afrika builds upon Global Citizen’s history of impactful events and campaigns across the African continent, such as the ‘Global Citizen Festival: Mandela 100’ and ‘Global Citizen Live: Lagos.’ Partners for Move Afrika include pgLang, the Rwanda Development Board, and TimesLive.
