Teenager charged with attempt to steal (Nation)
A teenager, Mukaila Shaibu, on Wednesday appeared at an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly attempting to dispossess some people of their belongings.
Shaibu, whose address was not provided, is standing trial for conspiracy and attempt to steal.
He, however, denied committing the offences. Read more
Command arraigns three for impersonating King Sunny Ade (Punch)
The police on Wednesday arraigned three persons in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly using the name of Afro-Juju icon, Sunday Adegeyi, aka King Sunny Ade, to swindle members of the public to the tune of N3.1m.
The police charged the defendants – Lawrence Oyedokun, 27; Rebecca Oyebode, 23; and Oyewumi Abiodun, 27 – with four counts of conspiracy, impersonation, stealing and obtaining money under false pretences.
The News Agency of Nigeria reported that Oyedokun and Oyebode lived in Osun State, while Abiodun resided in Oyo State. The last defendant, however, denied the allegations. Read more
Officials stop gang from smuggling Indian hemp into prison (Nation)
Officials of the Nigerian Prisons Service (NPS), Ikoyi, Lagos, have foiled another attempt by a two-man gang to smuggle Indian hemp into Ikoyi Prison.
The incident occurred a week ago, barely one month after officials of the prison foiled an attempt by a housewife, Adeyemi Oyinkansola, whose husband is on remand at the Ikoyi Prison, to smuggle about 930 grams of a substance suspected to be Indian hemp concealed in four big tomato tins, into the facility.
The suspects, Babatunde Mustapha and Abdullahi Ismail, were caught while attempting to smuggle Indian hemp into the prisons during visiting hours last week. Read more
Two arrested for beheading two, killing three in Lagos (Punch)
Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested two suspects, Saheed Lateef and Julius Augulere, for alleged involvement in the cult clash that left five people dead in Alasiya in the Abraham Adesanya area of the Eti-Osa Local Government Area of the state on April 14, 2019.
PUNCH Metro had reported that two of the five corpses were beheaded; one victim was shot dead; another had his throat slit; while the last was butchered to death during the clash that started around midnight.
The police were said to have recovered only four corpses because the family of one of the victims refused to release his remains. Read more
Court remands man for allegedly defiling minor (Nation)
An Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos on Wednesday ordered that a 35-year-old man, Jimoh Musibau, who allegedly defiled a minor, be remanded in prison.
Musibau is charged with indecent assault.
Chief Magistrate F.A. Azeez, who gave the order, did not take the defendant’s plea. Read more
Cook jailed for 14 years for killing sibling over meat (Punch)
A 34-year-old cook, Janet James, was on Monday sentenced to 14 years in jail by a Lagos State High Court in Igbosere for beating her eight-year-old brother to death.
It was learnt that Janet had on August 10, 2009, around 8pm in the Ilupeju area of the state, beat her brother, Saviour James, to death with a stirring rod for allegedly stealing meat from a pot of soup.
She was said to have dumped his corpse on the premises of an insurance company in Ilupeju after committing the crime. Read more

He is facing a two-count charge of obtaining money under false pretence and stealing.
Prosecuting Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Akpan Ikem said the accused committed the offences last November 22 at about 10am at Seme Border area of Badagry. Read more
Court admits video of cleric confessing to beheading woman for N4,000 (Guardian)
A Lagos High Court in Igbosere has admitted in evidence a video showing an Islamic cleric, Taofeek Adamu, confessing to beheading a member of his mosque for N4,000. Adamu, 61, of Masinowe compound, Ikoga in Badagry, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and murder, preferred against him by the Lagos State government.
Prosecuting counsel, Mrs. O.F. Fagbai, yesterday alleged that Adamu, alias Kiekie, severed the head of Oluwakemi Afolabi, 38, at about 4:00p.m. on March 19, 2017 at Waterside, Ikoga-Zebbe in Badagry.
She said the deceased went to seek spiritual help from the cleric, but “the defendant beheaded the deceased before chopping off her other parts for ritual purposes. Read more
Gospel musician in court for allegedly stealing 45,000 litres of PMS (Nation)
A 36-year-old gospel musician, Ajibola Oyetunde, who allegedly stole his employer’s 45,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) valued at N8 million, on Wednesday appeared in an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.
Oyetunde, whose lives at No. 2 Aruawe St., Aradangun in Badagry, is charged with three counts of conspiracy and stealing.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge. Read more
Court sentences pastor to five years’ imprisonment for fraud (Punch)
A pastor with a Pentecostal church, Fisayo Nehemiah, has been sentenced to five years’ imprisonment by an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, after he was convicted of fraud.
Nehemiah was sentenced by the Chief Magistrate R. Davies-led court on Friday.
Our correspondent learnt that the convict obtained iron rods valued at N1,400,385 from a company, Mukaz Nigeria Limited, under false pretences. Read more
Man docked for theft of two motorcycles (Nation)
A 22-year-old man, Lukuman Ibrahim, was on Thursday arraigned before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos State, for allegedly stealing two motorcycles worth N455,000.
Ibrahim of no fixed address, is facing a two-count charge of stealing and felony.
The prosecutor, ASP. Akpan Ikem, told the court that the accused committed the offences on April 14, at about 3 a.m., at Magbon area. Read more
Fake visa agent faces N900, 000 fraud charge (Nation)
A 34 -year-old fashion designer, Gabriel John, charged with defrauding a woman of N900, 000, was on Wednesday in Lagos hauled up before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.
The defendant, who resides at Gbagada, Lagos, was arraigned before Magistrate M.O Tanimola on a two-count charge of stealing and obtaining money under false pretences.
John, however, denied committing the offences and was admitted to a bail of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum. Read more
