Governors to take position on minimum wage today (Leadership)

State governors will today meet to take a final position on the new minimum wage demanded by organized labour in the country.

The federal government’s Economic Management Team (EMT) chaired by the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo had yesterday met with representatives of the government and the governors to take a position on the new minimum wage.

At the meeting, the governors were said to have insisted that they lack the capacity to pay the new figure of N30,000 being pushed for by the workers.

Leadership gathered that the governors were also not comfortable with the N24,000 being proposed by the federal government on the ground that some states are still struggling to pay N18,000.

Organised labour is insisting on N30,000, while state governors are proposing N20,000. Read more
