Grace Egbagbe: From good times to sleeping beauty

Just before y2k at the turn of the last century the news was dominated by Grace Egbagbe’s graciousness not just at looking good but also at social gatherings and, of course, the expected y2k computer glitch.

However, in the years since her retirement, Ms. Egbagbe has been relatively quiet except you count the website www.askauntygrace.com where she serves as some kind of agony aunt. The society big shot and former Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) top shot has said that one of the most memorable times of her life has been the interview she conducted with Wilona from the Good Times television series on the beach in Los Angeles, which was beamed via satellite to the world. There is no doubt that the Nigerian society remembers much more than that. She has also said that what she enjoys most these days is travel and sleep.

The first of seven children, she studied English language at the University of Ibadan and theatre arts, film and television production at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) before going for a law degree from the University of Buckingham, England.

She was successful not just at her media career of 27 years at the NTA, she was also very good at turning the klieg lights on herself. No thanks to her easy beauty and grace. Now that she has taken a back seat, who will paint the town in colours only she could muster?
