Graeme Souness urges Manchester United not to appoint Mauricio Pochettino (Metro)

Graeme Souness believes Manchester United need to appoint an ex-Red Devil to replace Jose Mourinho at the club.

Mourinho was sacked on Tuesday after the club’s worst start to a Premier League season in their history and Mauricio Pochettino is the leading contender to take over.

Pochettino is currently in charge at Tottenham, and United have already confirmed the club will not appoint a new manager until the end of the season.

Michael Carrick, Mourinho’s assistant coach, is in place as United’s ‘temporary’ head coach before an interim manager arrives.

Souness reacted to Mourinho’s sacking on Sky Sports and suggested the club needs someone who has roots at Old Trafford. Read more
