Lagos cook killed by unidentified men (Punch)
The family of a cook, Joseph Otoibhi, in the Jakande area of Lagos State has been thrown into mourning after he was killed by some unidentified men. Punch Metro learnt that Otoibhi was returning home on Wednesday around 10pm when he was hacked down with a machete.
A source close to the diseased, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of security reasons, told our correspondent that the family was surprised because the dead cook did not interact with people on the street.
The source said, “He came to my shop and left before me. He was about climbing the staircase when he was attacked, he tried to escape but he could not make it…” Read more
Lagos hit-and-run driver nabbed in Ghana (Nation)
A driver with King Solomon Chariots Transportation, Abuchi Okpara, who fled to Ghana after allegedly hitting Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) official, Obafemi Ogunmeru, has been arrested.
The driver, who absconded after the August 7 accident at Igando in Lagos, was brought back from Ghana, by his boss, Johnson Ogbonnaya and handed over to the police last Friday and charged to court on Monday.
Okpara knocked down Ogunmeru in Igando area of Alimosho while attempting to evade arrest after violating traffic rule. Read more
Teacher in court for allegedly pouring hot water on neighbour (Punch)
The Police on Thursday arraigned a 41-year-old teacher, Funmilayo Salami, in an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly pouring hot water on her neighbour. The defendant, who lives at No. 6, Jinudu St., Agege, Lagos, is being tried for alleged assault.
The prosecutor, Inspector Abiola Adewale, told the court that the defendant poured hot water on one Maria Gilbert following an argument.
Adewale alleged that the defendant committed the offence on July 27 about 6.30pm at No. 6, Jinudu St., Agege, Lagos.
He told the court that the accused and the complainant had a little misunderstanding, alleging that the defendant suddenly grabbed a kettle filled with hot water and poured it on the neighbour. Read more
Murder: Court releases Lagos PDP chairman from Kirikiri prison (Vanguard)
A Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja, on Tuesday, released the embattled Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in Lagos State, Moshood Salvador, accused of murder, from prison custody.
The PDP Chairman was set free after being incarcerated alongside 10 others over the alleged murder of the party’s local government chairman in Apapa Local Government Area of the state, Adeniyi Aborishade.
Other suspects include Kehinde Fasasi, Rotimi Kujore, Fatai Adele, Ismaila Abiola, Amos Fawole, Victoria Falowo, Mukaila Odukoya, Oropo Isaac, Mohammed Babangida and Ugochukwu Nwoke. Read more
Police arrest 2 suspected robbers in Lagos (Punch)
The command’s spokesman, Chief Superintendent of Police, Chike Oti, said police undercover operatives deployed to the route arrested the suspects on Saturday. He said the two suspects had been on the command’s watch list for a long time. “They were arrested while robbing a lady identified simply as Oluwatosin around Mile 2.”
They had succeeded in dispossessing the victim of her phone and other valuables before they were arrested. Read more
Lagos Task Force arrests 210, impounds 125 bikes (ThisDay)
The Lagos State Environmental Task Force has arrested about 210 miscreants and street urchins across the state, and impounded no fewer than 125 motorcycles around Iludun Town, New Oko-Oba area of Agege.
Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the Task Force, Adebayo Taofiq, said in a statement that the enforcement operation, carried out based on complaints by different communities around the area, also resulted in demolishing of 98 illegal shanties built on drainage alignment and road set-backs. Chairman of the Agency, Olayinka Egbeyemi, a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), who reportedly led the enforcement team, said those arrested were the ones recently dislodged by the agency along railway line behind the Abattoir at Agege, a suburb of Lagos.
The taskforce said the miscreants and street urchins were in the habit of terrorising those communities, robbing people of valuables such as phones, wallets and jewellery. Read more
Human Trafficking: Lagos Police arrest fake grandma, haunt woman over death of minor (ThisDay)
The Lagos State Police Command, Bariga Police Division, has arrested a ‘fake grandmother’, Mrs. Funmilayo, and a child trafficker, Adepeju Solomon, for allegedly selling two brothers aged nine and 13 as well as inflicting injury on one with a hot knife as punishment.
The grandma and the trafficker were arrested on August 8 after one of the brothers, David, 9, was rescued on August 7 with the severe burnt injury he got on his left arm as punishment for buying biscuit with N50 he received from their guest.
The little boy and pupil of Akoka Primary School, who lived at 87, Finbarr’s College Road, Bariga, with the woman, was found with rashes (ringworm) all over his head coupled with the untreated injury. Read more
Herbalist, 2 accounting clerks arrested over N2.2m alleged fraud (Punch)
The Police say they have arrested a self-acclaimed herbalist and two accounting clerks of a feeds mill in Badagry for allegedly defrauding the company of N2.2 million.
A police official confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria in Badagry on condition of anonymity.
The source said that the company’s accounting clerks were shouldered with the responsibility of depositing cash sales into the bank.
NAN gathered that rather than paying the cash into the company’s bank account, the duo gave the money to the fake herbalist to prepare charms that would make them successful in their music careers.
“When they approached the fake herbalist, he asked them to bring N2 million in order to help them achieve their goals…” Read more
70-year-old defrauds trader of rent, steals goods (Punch)
A 70-year-old man, Dennis Okachi, has been arrested by the police for allegedly defrauding a trader, David Osita, in Katangowa Market, Lagos State.
The septuagenarian also allegedly stole the trader’s goods, which the victim reportedly gave him for safekeeping.
Punch Metro gathered that Osita paid N50,000 to Okachi, a market leader, as shop rent in July. The rent was to run from August to December 2018, at the rate of N10,000 per month.
Osita had also kept two packs of clothes, valued at N250,000 in Okachi’s shop while he awaited the shop space. Okachi reportedly failed to provide the shop and did not return the clothes in his custody. Read more
