“Guardians of the Galaxy”’s James Gunn responds to Hawkeye Easter egg

Disney+’s Hawkeye has a pretty subtle Easter egg that you may or may not have spotted – and it’s a nod to fellow Marvel title Guardians of the Galaxy.

Now, as fans continue to enjoy Hawkeye’s move to the small screen, director James Gunn has offered an explanation (of sorts) for the name drop.

Responding to a fan on Twitter who shared a still from Hawkeye, in which we see someone using Instagram with the username @iamgr00t, Gunn joked that the mention was actually in reference to Dave Bautista’s stunt double, Rob de Groot rather than everyone’s favourite tree monster.

That’s probably the IG account of the MCU version of Rob de Groot, @DaveBautista’s stunt double. Unlike the real Rob, the MCU version is a total dick, has a posh British accent & a full, luscious head of hair. (Also, it’s a cool Easter egg.) https://t.co/4OEjSuCF3p pic.twitter.com/xu7eDcTLf7

“That’s probably the IG account of the MCU version of Rob de Groot, @DaveBautista’s stunt double,” Gunn responded alongside a photo of de Groot and Bautista together.

“Unlike the real Rob, the MCU version is a total dick, has a posh British accent and a full, luscious head of hair. (Also, it’s a cool Easter egg.)”

This Insta-Easter egg isn’t the only thing fans have spotted in Hawkeye of late, with one viewer recently pointing out a continuity error in the opening episode.

The mistake in question shows Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop looking up at Stark Tower after the Battle of New York, with one letter on the side of the building still intact despite it being destroyed early on in the same scene in the first Avengers movie.

It’s a small mistake, granted, and we’ll let it slide – after all, the Hawkeye moment in question was shot from scratch.

“The whole thing was completely done brand new, it was all new off the showroom floor,” director Rhys Thomas explained. (DigitalSpy)
