Gunmen kill farm manager, abduct 3 in Niger

Suspected hoodlums have killed a farm manager and kidnapped three other individuals during a raid on two farms in Niger State.

The manager of one of the farms, located on the outskirts of the Sabon-Wuse community in Tafa Local Government Area, whose name was not immediately provided, reportedly attempted to confront the gun-wielding hoodlums when he was shot to death.

The Commander of the Security Vigilante in Tafa community, Hussaini Abubakar, who confirmed the incident, said the bandits had first abducted three people before shooting the manager.

“The manager was among those who attempted to confront the gunmen, but in the process, he was shot to death by the bandits,” Abubakar said.

Abubakar added that the assailants did not rustle any cattle from any of the farmhouses during the operation.

The Niger State Police Command spokesman, Wasiu Abiodun, who also confirmed the incident on Wednesday, stated that two people were abducted by the hoodlums.

He assured the public that the police were making efforts to rescue the victims.

He said, “On 11/8/2024 at about 0100 hrs, information was received that suspected armed men attacked a residence at Angwan-Aso, near Sabon-Wuse.

“The police patrol team attached to the Sabon-Wuse Police Division, led by the DPO, moved to the scene, but the hoodlums had already escaped with the victims.

“It was also observed that during the attack, the hoodlums had an encounter with a security guard attached to a poultry farm in the neighbourhood, who sustained gunshot injuries, while two victims were abducted.

“Unfortunately, the injured victim was taken to Umaru Musa Yar’adua Hospital in the town, where he was confirmed dead. Efforts are ongoing to rescue the abducted victims unharmed.” (Punch)
