Police bust fake job syndicate, rescue 16 hostages in Rivers (Leadership)

The Rivers State Police Command has dismantled a notorious job racketeering syndicate that allegedly specialised in advertising fake employment vacancies to defraud unsuspecting job-seekers.

The crackdown, which occurred in the Igwuruta area of Ikwerre local government area of the State, also led to the rescue of 16 victims held hostage by the syndicate.

According to the State’s Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu, the syndicate was uncovered after the command’s Octopus Strike Force responded to a distress call from concerned residents who suspected a hostage situation at the compound where the gang operated. Read more

Court to rule on suit seeking Ganduje’s removal September 23 (Punch)

A Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed September 23, 2024, for the judgment in a suit seeking the removal of Dr Abdullahi Ganduje as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress.

At the previous sitting on July 5, the presiding Judge, Justice Inyang Ekwo, had fixed Wednesday, September 18, to deliver judgment in the suit but the matter was not listed in the Court’s cause list today.

Upon inquiry, it was revealed that the judgement was not ready and parties in the suit had earlier been communicated by the court registrar for a new date. Read more

FCT residents groan over difficulty to access FG’s N40k rice (Vanguard)

Many residents of the Federal Capital Territory have been experiencing difficulty accessing the Federal Government’s 50Kg bag of rice at N40,000.

A News Agency of Nigeria correspondent, who visited the Nigerian Agricultural Insurance Corporation (NAIC) headquarters, a payment centre, revealed that hundreds of residents were seen waiting to be attended to.

Operatives of the Onikan Division of Lagos Police Command have arrested one Suspect, Yakubu Yusuf, for vandalising a segment of the Third Mainland Bridge railings.

This was disclosed in a statement on X.com by the Lagos State Police Command on Wednesday.

According to the statement, Yusuf was arrested following information received by the division on the activities of some vandals operating along the Old School of Nursing area of the Third Mainland Bridge. Read more 

NAFDAC shuts down illegal cosmetics factory in Lagos (Channels)

The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has shut down an illegal factory producing counterfeit cosmetic products at Benue Plaza, Trade Fair Complex in Lagos State.

Disclosing this in a post on its X handle on Tuesday, the agency said the factory was shut down after its operatives raided the location and discovered various unregistered chemicals and packaging materials, along with expired products that were being revalidated for sale.

During the operation, over 1,200 cartons of fake cosmetic products were seized by NAFDAC. Read more

Passengers said a pressurization issue on a Delta Air Lines flight Sunday left them with bloody noses and ears.

A spokesperson for the airline company said that Flight 1203 from Salt Lake City to Portland, Oregon, was unable to pressurize above 10,000 feet.

Hundreds of pagers that exploded in Lebanon and Syria in an apparent operation targeting members of Hezbollah bore the brand of a Taiwanese company, though the firm’s chair told reporters Wednesday that another company in Budapest manufactured the devices.

Near-simultaneous detonations of pagers used by members of the Iran-backed Hezbollah terror group killed at least 12 people, including two children, and wounded nearly 3,000 on Tuesday.

Taiwanese pager firm Gold Apollo said in a statement that the firm had licensed its AR-924 brand of pager to BAC Consulting KFT, based in Hungary’s capital, and was not involved in the production. Read more
