Peter Nielsen denies killing Alizee, daughter (Guardian)
A Danish man was on Wednesday remanded in custody after pleading not guilty to killing his wife and daughter at their home in Nigeria’s commercial capital, Lagos. Peter Nielsen, 53, appeared in court in the city accused of the murder of his wife, Zainab, 37, and their three-year-old daughter, Petra.
Prosecutors have said his wife — a singer popularly known as Alizee — suffered head injuries while the young girl was found poisoned. Nielsen allegedly tried to cover up the deaths at the family’s home on the upscale Banana Island on April 5 as a domestic accident. Read more
Lagos Police uncovers illegal Blood Bank, recovers 7 pints (ThisDay)
According to police report, Achegbulu was arrested after he drew four pints of blood from 17-year-old Ayomide Adesanya on Monday June 4 and Sunday June 10. He took two pints each on the two days.
The medical lab technician of 18 Kusa bus stop Bariga was said to have lured under aged kids. He paid them 2,000 naira each while he sold for 7,000.
According to the PPRO Lagos, SP Chike Oti, the CP led operatives of the command to Bariga to see the blood bank and paid a visit to the victim at the hospital after the case got to the command. Read more
Man who ripped out friend’s heart for ritual says regrets not started making money yet (Vanguard)
A middle-aged man, identified as Daniel, who connived with two of his colleagues to kill and rip out the heart of one of their friends, Isaiah James, for ritual purpose said his only regret is that they had not started making money from the ritual before their arrest.
According to Daniel, who was arrested in Ajah area of Lagos and is being interrogated at the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Panti, Yaba, alongside three others, “I didn’t feel anything while I was removing his heart. Killing a human being is the same thing as an animal. My regret is that we did not succeed in making money before we were arrested.” Read more
Court remands 4 men for allegedly killing colleague, removing heart (Nation)
A Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Monday ordered four men to be remanded in Ikoyi Prisons for allegedly killing their colleague and removing his heart for ritual.
They are Daniel Luka, 24, Audu Isaiah, 24, Wavi David, 20 and Ayuba Musa, 24. They are standing trial on a two-count charge of conspiracy and murder.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Modupe Olaluwoye, told the court that the men committed the offences on May 22 at Alasia along Oke-Ira road in Ajah, near Lagos. Olaluwoye alleged that the accused had been patronising a ritualist, who had asked them for a human heart in exchange for wealth. Read more
Man jailed for life after beheading friend (Guardian)
Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of a Special Offences Court in Ikeja, on June 13, sentenced a 42-year-old man, Ifeanyi Nnamoko, to life imprisonment, for the death of his friend over a fight.
Nnamoko, who works as a scavenger at a dumpsite in Ojota, was arraigned on March 24, 2011 on a one-count of murder charge contrary to Section 319 (1), cap 17 Vol. 2 Laws of Lagos State, 2003.
He had pleaded not guilty to the charge of murder brought against him by Lagos State government for killing his best friend.
In her judgment, Justice Taiwo held that the convict was guilty of the murder charge brought against him. She said: “The prosecution has proved the case of death of a human being beyond reasonable doubt. I hereby find the defendant guilty of the murder of Ifeanyi Anyanwu…” Read more
Lagos police arrests man for kidnapping, brutally defiling 13-years-old (ThisDay)
The Lagos State police has arrested 26-year-old Chibuzor Emealo, for kidnapping and then brutally defiling a 13-year-old girl (name withheld) from 12 am till dawn at the Orile Iganmu area.
Emealo, also known as Alomo, was arrested after the little girl came home the next morning bleeding profusely from her bruised privates.
The perpetrator was immediately arrested at his residence at 3 Omoniyi Street Orile-Iganmu and is currently in police custody but will appear in court on Thursday.
According to police report, the perpetrator went to the survivor’s house at 12am after the mother left for her shift job. Read more
Police arrest robbery suspect with pistol in Lagos (Independent)
Operatives of Iju Police Division (Red House Police Station) have arrested an armed robbery suspect with a gun.
The suspect, 25-year-old Popoola Tobi, investigation revealed was arrested at about 11.40 am on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 while he and four other suspected gang members were heading for a robbery operation.
It was gathered that the suspect said to reside at 4 Ogun Street, Station Bus stop, Iju-Ishaga was arrested within a playground close to a Catholic Church in Fagba area of Iju.
Further investigation revealed that four other suspected members of the gang took to their heels and escaped when they sighted the police. Read more
Lagos gives rapist life jail for defiling 12-year-old girl (Punch)
After 15 months of trial, a defiler, 28-year-old Kingsley Inyang, is to spend the rest of his life in jail, a Lagos High Court sitting in Igbosere ruled on Monday.
Inyang bagged life imprisonment for defiling a 12-year-old girl.
Justice Sedoten Ogunsanya, who handed down the verdict, found him guilty of the offence which contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
In the trial that lasted for one year and three months, Ogunsanya held that the Lagos State prosecution team led by Mr. Adebayo Haroun, proved its case beyond all reasonable doubts. Read more
Man arrested for impersonating Lagos govt official (Punch)
The officials of the Lagos State Taskforce on Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement Unit) have arrested 35-year-old Omoakin Friday for allegedly parading himself as an official of the Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps and allegedly extorting money from residents with a fake identity card.
The Togolese national was said to have confessed that he had for long been extorting money from pedestrians who preferred not to be prosecuted in court, adding that he made an average sum of N10,000 daily.
The Chairman of the task force, Olayinka Egbeyemi, said Friday was arrested after a complaint about illegal activities of the suspect was lodged by LAGESC. Read more
Bank worker hacks into customers’ accounts, transfers N3m (Punch)
A worker with a bank in Lagos State, identified only as Bunmi, has been declared wanted for allegedly defrauding some customers of the bank.
Punch Metro learnt that Bunmi hacked into customers’ bank accounts and diverted over N3m into some private accounts. Our correspondent gathered that the fraud was uncovered after owners of the accounts complained about their disappearing funds, which made the bank to institute a probe.
The bank management reportedly blocked the accounts into which the funds were transferred. Read more
Woman plunges into Lagos lagoon (Vanguard)
A woman with an unknown identity Sunday, plunged into the lagoon on Third Mainland Bridge, in Lagos.
As at 8.45pm, efforts were still on to recover her body, without luck.
There were however, conflicting accounts as to how the incident happened.
A version of the account said that the woman was a passenger in an UBER car, driving inward Lagos Island, when she told the driver to stop.
Thereafter, she reportedly alighted from the vehicle, crossed the road and plunged into the lagoon.
Another version said that the deceased was a man, who parked his Ford Explorer car on top of the bridge and plunged into the lagoon. Picture of the vehicle with plate number APP 190 CE went viral on social media on June 9. Read more
