Hector Bellerin to join Barcelona on free transfer

Hector Bellerin will finally leave Arsenal before the deadline day transfer window closes.

The right-back has not played since a 1-0 win over Chelsea in May 2021 and it is understood he will re-join Barcelona on a free transfer.

Bellerin started his career at the Catalan club before joining the Gunners in 2011.

He went on to make 239 appearances for the north London club over the next 11 years, winning three FA Cups, but fell out of favour under manager Mikel Arteta.

It is understood the 27-year-old is awaiting permission to fly to Spain to complete the move.

The right-back will take a significant pay cut to join Barcelona, and will also forego any money owed to him by Arsenal.

The Gunners will retain a 25 per cent sell-on clause in the player.

Bellerin spent the 2020/21 season on loan at Real Betis and helped them qualify for the Europa League.

The defender has long been linked with a return to Barcelona, spending his formative years at their La Masia academy.

It is thought the deal will be a one-year contract.

Current Barca boss Xavi is in need of a new right-back with Dani Alves leaving for the second time this summer and Sergino Dest heading to AC Milan on loan.

Sergi Roberto, Jules Kounde and Ronald Araujo have all been used as makeshift right-backs until a more permanent solution is found. (TalkSport)
