Herdsman impregnated my wife, vows to take my life, Nasarawa farmer cries out from hiding (Nation)
Lorver Angbir, a 48-year-old farmer from Tse-Nyamsho village in Keana Local Government Area, Nasarawa State has gone into hiding following the threat to his life by a herdsman who had impregnated his wife. Angbir said his sin was that both his wife, Mwuese, and the baby she had from the pregnancy died during labour and the herdsman, who he identified as Alhaji Abu, concluded that he (Angbir) was responsible for the death of Mwuese and the newborn baby because he was not happy that she was impregnated by another man.
Speaking from hiding in an interview with our correspondent, Angbir said he regretted the day he met Mwuese with whom he was married for eight years before she was taken over by another man in a manner he considered humiliating while Mwuese appeared to enjoy every bit of the ugly development.
Angbir, who has since taken refuge in another village, said: “My wife slept with a Fulani man with whom we had lived as brothers in the same village for years. She got pregnant for him and told me to my face that he was responsible for her pregnancy.
“It shocked me when, from nowhere, Alhaji Abu started coming into my wife’s room and ordered me out of the house. Read more

Traders and buyers have expressed worry over the indefinite closure of popular auto spare part mart, Ladipo Market, in Mushin Local Government Area of the state.
Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr Tunji Bello, had earlier warned market operators against indiscriminate dumping of refuse in drainages, highways and undesignated places or faced sanctions, ranging from closure of the market.
The Lagos State Government, through the state Waste Management Authority LAWMA, had shut the market over alleged repeated violation of the environment despite several warnings against indiscriminate dumping of junk auto parts

Man Remanded For Turning Job Seeker Into Sex Machine (DailyTrust)
A magistrates’ court in Ebutte-Metta, Lagos, has ordered the remand of one Kingsley Onoha for turning a female job seeker into a sex machine.
While presenting the charges, the prosecutor told the court that the lady had gone to the accused to ask for help to secure a job, but that the accused kept sleeping with her under the guise that the job had not started.
The prosecutor said the lady who became frustrated by the prolonged promises made to her by the accused reported the case to the police who promptly stepped in and arrested the suspect and charged him with rape and forceful abduction. Read more

Fans have taken to social media to mourn the demise of veteran Nollywood actress, Rachel Oniga.
Her son, Olatunji, confirmed the death of the actress to The PUNCH on Saturday, saying his mother died on Friday night around 10pm.
“She passed last night around 10pm. She had malaria and typhoid,” Olatunji told The PUNCH.

Tunde Rahman, Special Adviser on Media to National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has denied his principal is dead or hospitalised.
Rahman made this known on Saturday in a statement following rumours the former Lagos Governor has passed on.
The statement reads: “His Excellency Asiwaju Bola Tinubu is fine. He is hale and hearty. He is not in any hospital. He has no medical problem that would require hospitalisation.

UNIZIK starts car wash business centre to boost finances (Tribune)
The Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Anambra State, has launched a Car Wash business centre to help boost the Varsity’s finances.
Sunday Tribune gathered that the business centre is sponsored by the School Faculty of Management Sciences and some individual donors.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, held at the School premises, on Friday, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Charles Esimone, said the establishment would boost the schools’ finances and to also help students apprenticeship as a way of acquiring business knowledge after graduation.

The Police Service Commission has said it will conduct it’s own separate investigation into the allegation of bribe leveled against Deputy Commissioner of Police Abba Kyari by convicted fraudster Abbas Ramon, aka Hushpuppi.
Recall that on Thursday 29th July 2021, the Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba ordered a review of the case of bribery brought against Kyari in a $1.1million scam, at a US court and the efforts of the Federal Bureau of Investigation to have Kyari arrested
A source said the PSC’s decision to do a separate probe became necessary following suspicion that some persons within the Police force were not favourably disposed to DCP Kyari’s high profile status as a result of the many fears he has achieve in crime busting investigations and arrests.

Nigeria set to receive 4m doses of Moderna vaccines tomorrow (ThisDay)
Federal government has said that a new batch of four million doses of Moderna vaccine will arrive in the country latest by Sunday.
The Executive Director of the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHCDA), Dr. Faisal Shuaib who disclosed this during an interview on the NTA network news yesterday night, said that the vaccine would be taken to various storage facilities across the country for immediate deployment for the vaccination exercise.
He said: “In Less than 72 hours from now, Nigeria will be receiving four million doses of Modena vaccines from the Covax facility and we are excited that this will be another opportunity for us to advance the protection of Nigerians against COVID-19 virus.”
He said that the Presidential Steering Committee on COVID19 had made adequate preparations for the storage and distribution of the vaccine by procuring 60 ultra-cold chain storage facilities across the country. Read more

Crisis has rocked the ward congresses of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom following the alleged insistence of National Secretary of the party’s Caretaker Committee Senator John Akpanudoedehe to have a consensus arrangement.
A group known as the APC Elders Forum led by a former military administrator of Rivers and Ogun states, Group Captain Sam Ewang(retd), had called for free and fair elective ward congresses instead of a consensus.
However, the congresses, which were supposed to take place in the 329 wards in the state, did not hold due to the absence of election materials.

A “unique” Anglo-Saxon coin found in a field in south Wiltshire is expected to fetch up to £200,000 at auction.
The Gold Penny, or Mancus of 30 Pence, was unearthed by a metal detectorist in a field near West Dean in March 2020.
Weighing 4.82g, it was struck between 802 and 839 during the reign of Ecgberht, King of the West Saxons.
Thought to be the only late Anglo-Saxon gold coin in private hands, it is expected to fetch between £150,000 and £200,000 at auction on 8 September. Read more

Escobar pub accused of glorifying drug lord’s reign of terror (BBC) Owners of a South American-themed bar that shares its name with notorious Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar have been urged to rethink their branding.
Colombians living in Nottingham said calling the venue Escobar was in poor taste, given the pain and death inflicted by the famous cartel boss.
They also criticised a mural inside the bar that appears to depict Escobar.

We hear that initially West was essentially squatting at the stadium after hosting a massive listening party there, and then deciding to take up residence in the massive 71,000-seat arena to put the finishing touches on the recording.

US sees highest number of new Covid cases worldwide (Metro)
The US saw the highest number of new coronavirus infections worldwide last week, amid the surging spread of Delta variant cases. The latest epidemiological report from the World Health Organization (WHO) revealed that the US had 500,322 new cases in the week ending July 25.
That represents a 131% increase in new cases versus the week before.
Globally, infections rose 8% to more than 3.8million cases. An average of about 540,000 daily cases were recorded in the past week, up from an average of 490,000 daily cases the prior week.
‘This increasing trend is largely attributed to substantial increases in the Region of the Americas and the Western Pacific Region,’ WHO stated in its report published on Wednesday. Read more

Australian gold medallist Jessica Fox has revealed the novel way she fixed her kayak prior to getting on the podium twice at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, patching it up with a condom.
The 27-year-old got silver and bronze at London 2012 and Rio 2016 respectively before finally landing a gold in the C1 canoe slalom on Thursday, having also got on the podium in the K1 final.
She had to work very hard along the way, edging out Team GB’s Mallory Franklin in the C1 final, while her kayak required a quick fix before the K1 competition.

The Brooklyn Nets’ star became the all-time leading scorer for the United States men’s basketball team in Olympics play Saturday during a 119-84 victory against Czech Republic that clinched a spot in the knockout-round quarterfinals. It was a nice milestone in a career of many, but Durant’s 3 was more important on an immediate level.
You would never guess it by the final score, but Team USA trailed for the first 13 minutes of action and looked headed for more trouble before Durant surpassed Carmelo Anthony and put his team in front for the first time all on one shot.
Playing among NBA All-Stars, Durant, a three-time Olympian, looked like the best player in the world when it was needed. He collected 23 points on 8-of-11 shooting, eight rebounds and six assists – all team-highs after three quarters – and he didn’t play in the fourth. Read more
NRL postpones Saturday games because of Covid-19 (BBC)
Australia’s NRL postponed Saturday’s games after Queensland brought in a three-day lockdown because of coronavirus.
The decision has been made as NRL clubs back calls to delay the Rugby League World Cup in England until 2022.
Three games were scheduled to take place on Saturday.
