How lifeless body of Super TV boss, Ataga, was found, witness recounts (Sun)
Nkechi Mogbo, the first prosecution witness in the ongoing trial of a 300-Level Mass Communication student of the University of Lagos, Chidinma Ojukwu, who was alleged to have killed Michael Usifo Ataga, the Super TV’s Chief Executive Officer, has told court how the deceased’s lifeless body was found.
Mogbo is the owner of the short service apartment where Ataga’s lifeless body was found in the Ikoyi area of Lagos State.
Ojukwu, alongside her sister, Chioma Egbuchu, and one Adedapo Quadri, are standing trial for the alleged murder of the deceased before Justice Yetunde Adesanya of the Lagos High Court, Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS).
Testifying before the court, yesterday, Mogbo told the court that she was the one who rented out the apartment where the deceased body was found. Read more
Witness scared to testify in court over defiling case against Baba Ijesha, says prosecution (Tribune)
The prosecution team of the Lagos State government has told an Ikeja Special Offences Court that one of the witnesses set to testify against Nollywood actor, Olanrewaju James alias Baba Ijesha, is scared to testify in court.
The state counsel, Mr Yusuf Sule, made the disclosure on Friday while explaining the absence of two witnesses slated to testify against the actor in his ongoing trial for sexual assault.
“My lord, the first witness is a police officer, he could not come to court today because he has been transferred and needs to get permission from where he was posted. The second witness could not come to court; he is jittery, he is scared to come to court.
“My lord, we will ensure that all the witnesses are in court by next week Friday,” the prosecutor said. Read more
NAFDAC arraigns businessman over importation of fake tramadol from China (Leadership)
The National Agency for Food, Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC), has arraigned a businessman before a Federal High Court, Lagos over alleged importation of fake 100g Tramadol tablets from China.
The businessman, Afamefuna Udensi, who was brought before Justice Daniel Osiagor, was, however, remanded in prison.
NAFDAC in the charges brought before Justice Osiagor accused the businessman of concealing the fake products from its officers at the seaport with furniture and motor spare parts in groupage from China.
According to the prosecutor, Mrs Chinyere Okoli, the defendant who resides at No 2, Ezinwanne Street in Onitsha, Anambra State, committed the offence on October. 26, 2021. Read more
Man remanded for allegedly robbing 6 people (Nation)
A middle-aged man, Dare Adebayo, has appeared before a Lagos State high court sitting at the Tafawa Balewa Square, for allegedly robbing six people with dengerous weapons.
Adebayo is facing a seven-count charge bordering on conspiracy and armed robbery, to which he pleaded not guilty.
The prosecuctor, Mr A.N. Adetokunbo, told the court that the defendant and others at large committed the offences on April 3, 2019, at No. 16A, Holy Cross Powerline St., Ejigbo, Lagos.
Adetokunbo said that the defendant armed himself with a gun, a cutlass and an axe, and robbed six people of phones, laptops, money and other valuables. Read more
12 dockworkers in our custody linked to N9.5b cocaine seized at Lagos port, says NDLEA (Guardian)
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA has said that it is holding 12 dockworkers at the Apapa seaport in Lagos because of their significant links to the importation of 32.9 kilograms of cocaine worth over N9.5 billion in street value.
A Federal High Court in Lagos had granted an application by the Agency for the interim attachment of a vessel MV Chayanee Naree used to import the 32.9 kilograms of cocaine into Nigeria through the Apapa seaport. Beside the attachment order, the court also granted NDLEA’s request to detain the Master of the ship, Mr. Tanahan Krilerk and 21 foreign crew members as well as the dockworkers arrested in connection to the case.
The anti-narcotic Agency had on October 13 intercepted the ship at the Apapa seaport following intelligence from international partners and support from other security forces such as the Nigerian Navy, Customs, DSS and the police. A thorough search of the ship led to the recovery of 30 parcels containing cocaine, which weighed 32.9kg.
The application in suit no: FHC/L/CS/1518/2021, which was filed by the agency’s Director of Prosecution and Legal Services, Joseph Nbone Sunday on Thursday 28th October was granted the following day Friday 29th October by Hon. Justice A.O. Awogboro. Read more
3-year old boy goes missing in Lagos (Nation)
A three-year-old boy identified as David Ajao has allegedly been abducted by unknown persons.
The boy was reportedly abducted while he was playing with other children in front of his dad’s shop on Dabara Street, Apongbon, Lagos.
It was gathered that the toddler – a nursery one pupil of St. Joseph Nursery and Primary School – was abducted on Saturday, November 14, 2021.
The victim’s mother, Airat Ajao, it was learnt, left David and his older sister Daniella at their dad’s shop before leaving for her own shop. Read more
Alleged importer of fake Tramadol gets N10m bail (Vanguard)
A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, on Monday, granted a N10 million bail to a 43-year-old businessman, Afamefuna Udensi, charged with alleged importation of fake Tramadol.
The defendant is being prosecuted by National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).
The defendant, who was arraigned on Nov. 10 before Justice Daniel Osiagor on a three-count charge of importation and sale of fake and unregistered drugs, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
After the plea of the defendant, the Defence Counsel, Mr Emeka Okpoko (SAN), had informed the court that his client was granted an administrative bail by NAFDAC, and urged to appear for his arraignment. Read more
NDLEA intercepts N4.9b heroin consignments at Lagos seaport, airport (Guardian)
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted fresh consignments of cocaine and heroin weighing 16.85 kilograms and worth more than N4.9 billion in street value.
This is contained in a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja by NDLEA’s Director, Media and Advocacy, Mr Femi Babafemi.
Babafemi stated that NDLEA operatives intercepted the consignments at the Apapa Seaport and at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos.
He added that four persons were being investigated for the 13.65kg cocaine seized on board a ship, MV Karteria that came into the Apapa Port from Santos, Brazil, on Sunday, Nov. 7. Read more
Woman, 37, docked for alleged N1.5m theft (Vanguard)
A 37-year-old woman, Tosin Fadoju, on Tuesday appeared before a Magistrates’ Court in Ikorodu, Lagos State, for allegedly stealing N1,501,500.
Fadoju, whose address was not provided, was charged with stealing.
She, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Okonofua Christian, told the court that the defendant committed the offence between Oct. 22 and Oct. 30 in Awotunde Lane, Igbogboarea, Ikorodu.
Nigerian Comedian, Cute Abiola declared missing (Vanguard)
Nigeria Comedian, Abdulgafar Ahmad Oluwatoyin, professionally known as Cute Abiola who is also a navy personnel has been declared missing
The Instagram comedian was declared missing by his fellow comedian, Mr Macaroni who shared the news on his official Twitter account and attached to the news, is the whatsapp message he received. The message states that, he has been detained on an order from the Nigerian Navy Headquarters and the last time Cute Abiola’s wife and associates heard from him was on November 15, 2021.
The Whatsapp message read;
“Ahmed Gafar is popularly known as The Cute Abiola left his house for office at Navy Town at 06:00Am on the 15th November, 2021 and got to the office at about 07:00am or thereafter. While he got to the office, he called his wife and associates that he had gotten to the office. Read more
