Have you ever searched for yourself online? Is there information there you’d rather no one else sees? Have you ever considered removing yourself from the internet? First, understand this isn’t possible, at least entirely. The internet has been around for a long time, and it’s next to impossible to remove every trace of you from anyone who digs deep enough. And yet, there are steps you can take to remove more of you online. However, this could take a lot of time — assuming there’s much about you for others to see. 

Nonetheless, there are steps you can take to minimise your online presence, thereby making it more difficult for others to find information about you.

Nigerian selected into prestigious global Eisenhower Fellowship (Guardian)

Aba-born Uzoma Nwagba – a lead innovator and Chief Operating Officer of Nigeria’s BOI Growth Platform – has been selected into the prestigious Global Eisenhower Fellowship.

Named after the 34th President of the United States – Dwight Eisenhower – the Fellowship selects the most impactful and innovative mid-career leaders from across continents to tackle pressing global challenges. Commemorating its 70th anniversary, the Eisenhower Fellowship has selected 26 Fellows from five continents for its 2023 Global Program. Fellows commence with six weeks of intensive travels across the United States for engagements with leading executives and experts in their fields – including the US government, technology, venture capital, politics, medicine, banking, law enforcement, and academia. Lagos reiterates ban on commercial motorcycles in restricted areas (Independent)

The Lagos State Government has reiterated that the ban on commercial motorcycles popularly called ‘okada’ in 10 Local Government Areas, (LGAs) and 15 Local Council Development Areas, (LCDAs) in the metropolis still persists.

Hon. Sola Giwa, Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, declared this at the weekend while on tour of some restricted areas within the state, where large numbers of motorcyclists (okada riders) had resumed operations.

Reaffirming the State Government’s ban on okada in the Local Government Areas which include; Kosofe, Oshodi-Isolo, Somolu, Mushin, Apapa, Ikeja, Lagos Island, Lagos Mainland, Surulere and Eti-Osa, as well as the Local Council Development Areas under them which are; Ojodu, Onigbongbo, Lagos Island East, Yaba and Coker Aguda. With others at; Itire-Ikate, Eti-Osa West, Iru Victoria Island, Ikoyi-Obalende, Ikosi-Isheri, Agboyi-Ketu, Isolo, Ejigbo, Bariga and Odi-Olowo, the Transport Special Adviser urged both riders and passengers to keep off. Traders in FCT commend CBN over availability of cash (Guardian)

Some traders in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have expressed delight over improvement in the availability of naira notes to citizens.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that many markets in Abuja, on Monday, returned to normal daily business activities as Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) injected more naira notes to the commercial banks.

A meat seller, Alhaji Audu Ali, said since the naira scarcity started, business had not been good, adding that most days he had no meat to sell due to the development. Read more 

Court remands man over alleged rape of 56-yr-old stroke patient (Vanguard)

An Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ibadan, on Monday, ordered the remand of one Bello Jamiu in Agodi Correctional Centre for allegedly raping a 56-year-old stroke patient.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr E. A. Idowu, who did not take the defendant’s plea due to lack of jurisdiction, ordered the remand pending legal advice from the Oyo State Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP).

He, thereafter, adjourned the matter till May 16 for mention.

INEC to hold supplementary elections in Kebbi, Adamawa April 15 (Punch)

The Independent National Electoral Commission has announced that all outstanding governorship, National and State Assembly supplementary elections will take place on Saturday, April 15, 2023.

The PUNCH reports that in Kebbi and Adamawa states, the governorship elections were declared inconclusive by INEC and supplementary elections scheduled to hold in some polling units in both states.

This was made known by the Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, Rotimi Oyekanmi on Monday. Read more

UNILAG pioneers environmental sustainability innovation (Vanguard)

The University of Lagos, UNILAG, has organised the first-ever environmental sustainability innovation conference in Nigeria, tagged “UNILAG Environmental Sustainability Challenge & Recycling Bazar.”

The widely publicised event kicked off on Thursday, March 23, 2023, at the Tayo Aderinokun Hall with an official opening ceremony.

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has said he would honour the invitation of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) if invited at the end of his tenure on May 29.

Screen greats Samuel L. Jackson and Vincent Cassel have been set to lead cast in action thriller Damaged, about a Chicago detective who goes to Scotland after an emerging serial killer’s crimes match those that he investigated five years earlier, one of which was the crime scene of his murdered girlfriend. 

Supporting cast includes Kate Dickie (The Witch), Gianni Capaldi (A Day To Die) and John Hannah (The Mummy) with direction from Terry McDonagh, whose credits include episodes of Killing Eve, Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad. Production is currently underway.

Kelly Clarkson announces new album “Chemistry” (NME)

Kelly Clarkson has announced her new album ‘Chemistry’, promising that new music will also be coming “really soon”.

The singer and daytime talk show host said that she’d been working on the new project for “close to three years now” and initially wasn’t sure if she was going to release it, but added that she was “very excited”.

“It’s called ‘Chemistry’ because I was trying to find a word – also, it might be one of the songs on the album – that really described the whole thing,” Clarkson explained in a video shared to social media. Read more 

Tyler, The Creator releasing Call Me If You Get Lost Deluxe Edition (SPIN)

Tyler, the Creator will release a deluxe edition of his chart-topping, Grammy-winning 2021 project Call Me if You Get Los on Friday (March 31) that will be comprised of material considered for, but ultimately excluded from it. Call Me if You Get Lost: The Estate Sale is led by the track “Dogtooth,” a Tyler Oknonma-directed video that is out now.

“Call Me if You Get Lost was the first album I made with a lot of songs that didn’t make the final cut,” Tyler wrote on Twitter. “Some of those songs I really love, and knew they would never see the light of day, so I’ve decided to put a few of them out.”

Israel in chaos as workers strike, ports close and officials protest over Netanyahu’s judicial overhaul plan (NBC)

Israel was paralyzed after hundreds of thousands of people stopped working Monday to protest Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s unprecedented plans to overhaul the country’s judicial system.

It followed widespread unrest Sunday night, after Netanyahu fired Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, who became the first member of his Likud Party to speak out against the proposed changes. Gallant had warned that divisions over the plans threatened Israel’s security.

Tens of thousands protested in Tel Aviv, where demonstrators were sprayed with water cannons. Beersheba, Haifa and Jerusalem also saw unrest. At one point, crowds in Jerusalem gathered outside Netanyahu’s home and broke through a security cordon, Reuters reported. Read more 

Florence invites Floridians to see pornographic Michelangelo (DW)

Florence Mayor Dario Naardella has invited parents, students and a teacher fired from the Tallahassee Classical School in Florida to come to Italy and judge firsthand whether Michelangelo Buonarroti’s 1504 sculpture of the Old Testament hero David is in fact pornography.

The invitation was extended after the school’s principal, Hope Carrasquilla, was forced to resign when parents vociferously complained about images of the five-meter (17 foot) tall marble sculpture being shown to sixth graders as part of a Renaissance art history course.

Two parents complained they had not been warned their children would be shown the image, while a third called it “pornographic.”

On Saturday, Mayor Nardella tweeted, “to mistake art for pornography is just ridiculous.” Read more

The captain of the senior national women football team, Onome Ebi, has said that the Super Falcons will be aiming for a semi-finals spot at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the ninth FIFA Women’s World Cup finals will hold in Australia and New Zealand from July 20 to August 20.

Ebi, while speaking with NAN following the FIFA Women’s World Cup trophy tour in Abuja on Sunday, said the team’s goal was to better their record at their last outing. Read more

FIFA to pay clubs $355m for sending players to 2026 and 2030 World Cups (TorontoSun)

FIFA’s compensation paid to clubs that release players for the men’s World Cup has been increased by nearly 70% to $355 million for the 2026 and 2030 tournaments, the global soccer governing body and the European Club Association (ECA) said on Monday.

The Club Benefits Programme affords clubs a share of national team competition revenues in return for releasing players and also protects clubs in case their players are injured on international duty.

The previous amount earmarked for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups was $209 million. A renewed Memorandum of Understanding was signed on Monday at the ECA General Assembly in Budapest, Hungary. Read more

Franz Wagner added 19 points and 10 rebounds, Wendell Carter Jr. had 18 points and six rebounds and Jalen Suggs returned from an injury with 16 points to help the Magic win their third straight.

Gregory Foo and Nicklaus Chiam secure China Tour cards (StraitsTimes)

After a poor Asian Tour Qualifying School outing in January, Singaporean professional golfers Gregory Foo and Nicklaus Chiam were worried about limited playing opportunities in 2023, having competed in just a handful of events on the Asian Development Tour in 2022.

However, a silver lining came in the China Tour International Open Qualifying School at the Hainan Ancient Saltern Golf Course, where both players made it to the top 15 at the end of four rounds on Saturday to secure a full card on the tour.

Foo finished fourth with four rounds of one-over 73 for a 292, while Chiam managed to turn things around after an opening 78 for joint-sixth placing with a six-over 294 (78-70-73-73). Read more
