The Lagos State Government has attributed the recent cholera outbreak in the state to an unregistered tiger nut drink.

The cholera outbreak has impacted multiple local government areas in Lagos, including Lagos Island, Eti-Osa, and Kosofe, with hospitals reporting the highest number of cases.

As of June 21, Lagos has recorded 24 deaths and 35 confirmed cholera cases, with Eti-Osa identified as the epicenter of the outbreak in Nigeria’s commercial capital. Read more 

Unauthorised operation by Lagos taskforce officers results in civilian death (Tribune)

A tragic incident occurred involving two police officers from the  Lagos State Taskforce who engaged in an unauthorised operation, accompanied by civilians, has left one dead.

The illegal activity resulted in an attack by motorcycle riders, leading to the death of one civilian.

According to SP Benjamin Hundeyin in a post on X said, the two officers undertook the illegal duty on June 19, 2024, without official sanction and brought civilians to increase their numbers. Read more

Court orders final forfeiture of over N12.18b choice properties linked to Emefiele (DailyTrust)

The Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has permanently forfeited to the Federal Government properties valued at over N11,140,000,000.00 (billion) and N1.04 billion linked to the embattled former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, Godwin Emefiele.

Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke made the order of final forfeiture after hearing a motion filed and argued by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), through its counsel Chineye Okezie. Read more

The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party Ward M1, Alimosho Local Government Area in Lagos, said the party’s former State Chairman, Otunba Segun Adewale (aka Aeroland) remains a bonafide PDP member at the ward.

Recall that Adewale whose political base is Alimosho, was suspended by the PDP LGA exco for allegedly causing disaffection in the party and tarnishing the party’s image.

Adewale’s suspension was announced by Alhaji Isiaka Shodiya, the PDP Chairman in Alimosho LGA , at a news conference on June 11 in Lagos.

Following the increasing spate of touts and touting activities at the nation’s airports, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has set up a joint task force to tackle the menace.

The joint task force comprised Aviation Security (AVSEC) personnel, a department in FAAN and the Nigeria Air Force (NAF).

An internal memo dated, June 21, 2024 with the head: ‘Touting/Illicit Activities At The Airports,’ distributed to all directors and airport managers in FAAN, signed by Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, the Managing Director, FAAN and obtained by Daily Independent, indicated that the taskforce would commence work on Monday, June 24, 2024 nationwide. Burna Boy didn’t pay all patients’ bill, UPTH clarifies (Channels)

Music star Burna Boy did not pay all the medical bills for patients during a recent visit to the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital (UPTH), the hospital management has said.

Contrary to reports that the musician settled all the medical bills of patients, the hospital clarified that Burna Boy only settled the bills of selected patients at the facility.

“However, contrary to reports stating that all patient’s bills in UPTH were paid during the visit, only selected patients received cash gifts or donations,” UPTH’s spokesperson, Elabha Meni, said on Friday. Read more

“He is expected to make a quick recovery and join the Outlaw Music Festival tour next week,” said a statement on the 91-year-old singer-songwriter’s X page Friday.

UN confirms Doha talks with Taliban will exclude Afghan rights defenders (VOA)

The United Nations confirmed Friday that a rare meeting of global envoys with Afghanistan’s Taliban rulers this month will not address concerns about Afghan civil society and women human rights defenders.

Roza Otunbayeva, the head of the U.N. Assistance Mission in Afghanistan, or UNAMA, emphasized the importance of the world community opening a direct dialogue with the Taliban, suggesting it could create opportunities for Afghan women to participate in future talks.

“This is what is possible today. … It is a process. Let’s start to speak,” she told reporters in New York after briefing a U.N. Security Council meeting on the Afghan situation. Read more

A man has been found after spending 10 days lost in a California wood.

Lukas McClish, 34, was last seen on the morning of 11 June near Big Basin Redwood State Park, around 14 miles north of Santa Cruz.

He was reported missing on 16 June, according to the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office. Lukas McClish, who had planned to go for a three-hour hike before getting lost, says he drank water from creeks, ate wild berries and slept on a bed of wet leaves during the time he was missing – and was followed by a mountain lion. McLaren team member taken to hospital after paddock fire (RN365)

McLaren has confirmed that a team member has been taken to hospital “as a precaution” following a fire in the paddock at the Spanish Grand Prix. 

Shortly before the start of Free Practice 3 on Saturday morning, the McLaren hospitality unit was evacuated after what is believed to be an electrical fire broke out in the kitchen. 

Local firefighters were quickly on the scene, with the neighbouring Alpine and Pirelli units also evacuated as a precaution. Read more

McLaren’s Lando Norris set the pace in Friday’s first Spanish Grand Prix practice ahead of Red Bull’s triple Formula One world champion Max Verstappen.
