CSOs faults distribution of subsidy palliative in Ondo (Tribune)
The coalition of civil society organisations (CSOs) in Ondo State has faulted the Palliatives Committee put in place by the state government over the shoddy arrangement put in place for the distribution of palliatives released by the Federal Government to cushion the effect of fuel subsidies for the people of the state.
The CSO’s positions were contained in a statement signed by Franklin Oloniju, Pius Akomolafe, Alo Martins, Stella Ikeokwu, Emmanuel Daramola, and Bola Fasuyi, who condemned the shoddy arrangement.
They noted that too many subcommittees are handling the distribution of palliative materials to favour those who are related to them. Read more

The swearing-in ceremony, which was held at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium, Alausa, Ikeja, signalled the inauguration of the governor’s cabinet for his second term in office.

Arise, who is a former Inspector-General of Police, was speaking on Tuesday at the National Vigilante Conference 2023 organised by the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) in Abuja, said any nation serious about ensuring the security of its people must have a way of involving non-state actors like the VGN, adding that if the security agencies can collaborate with the vigilantes, the issue of insecurity would be dealt with.

A Spanish search and rescue team arrived in Tripoli on Wednesday morning to help with recovery efforts, two days after Storm Daniel devastated the northeastern parts of Libya, killing more than 5,000 people, according to the authorities in the east.

Swiss bishops’ study finds more than 1,000 cases of clergy sexual abuse swiss church (CNA)
A comprehensive, yearlong investigation into sexual abuse within the Catholic Church in Switzerland released on Tuesday has documented more than 1,000 instances of abuse dating back to the mid-20th century.
The Swiss Bishops’ Conference commissioned the groundbreaking study by the University of Zurich’s Historical Seminar, reported CNA Deutsch, CNA’s German-language news partner.
“The findings expose deep-rooted issues that go beyond the actions of individual perpetrators to systemic causes that Church leaders must answer for,” said Bishop Felix Gmür of Basel, president of the Swiss Bishops’ Conference, in an immediate response to the study. Read more

Simona Halep, 2-time Grand Slam champion, to appeal 4-year ban in doping case (CBC)
Two-time Grand Slam champion Simona Halep has been suspended from professional tennis for four years for doping violations, the International Tennis Integrity Agency said Tuesday.
The 31-year-old Romanian “committed intentional anti-doping rule violations ” by failing a drug test during the 2022 U.S. Open and for irregularities in her Athlete Biological Passport, the ITIA said.
Halep, who plans to appeal the ruling, had been provisionally suspended since October 2022. The four-year ban will run to Oct. 6, 2026. Read more

The marriage of UFC and WWE is complete: Endeavor and WWE announced the close of their deal to create TKO Group Holdings, merging the wrestling entertainment company and MMA leader UFC.
The hope is that by tag-teaming as a unified force, UFC and WWE together will become stronger than they could be separately. TKO together boasts more than 1 billion fans around the world, reaching viewers in 180 countries, and producing more than 350 annual live events. The company’s new website is at tkogrp.com.
Shares in TKO will begin trading Tuesday (Sept. 12) on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol “TKO.” Endeavor holds a 51% controlling interest in the new company and existing WWE shareholders hold a 49% interest on a fully diluted basis. With the launch of TKO, WWE shares will cease trading on the NYSE; WWE closed up 2.7% Monday, to $100.65/share.
