Men of the Ogun State ​​Police Command have arrested 28-year-old Kazeem​​ Yusuf for allegedly beating his wife, Raimot, to death at Ita-Aka in the Abeokuta area of the state.

After perpetrating the crime, Kazeem reported at the Enugada Police Division that his wife collapsed and died on her way to fetch water.

In a bid to verify the claim, the Divisional Police Officer, Enugada Police Division, SP Baba Hamzat, detailed detectives to the scene of the incident to investigate the cause of death. Read more

Lagos govt, firms partner to build low-cost innovation centres (ThisDay)

Two agencies of Lagos State Government and four firms Thursday announced a partnership towards the construction of five innovation centres across the state, saying the initiatives were designed to ensure capacity building, competitiveness and ecosystem among start-ups and budding entrepreneurs.

Addressing a joint press conference in Ikeja Thursday, representatives of Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency (LASPARK), Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF), Versecom Limited, IHS Nigeria, Leadspace by Passion Incubator and Cisco Nigeria listed the five innovation centres to include: Energy and Environment Hub; Financial Inclusion Centre; Smart City and Health Initiative; Agricultural Hub; and Logistics and Mobility Innovation Centre. LASG vows to remove 100 Magodo buildings (Punch)

The Lagos State Government has said it will compel residents to vacate over 100 buildings already marked for demolition in the Magodo area of the state.

This followed the death of a woman and her three children on Saturday after a house collapsed at Otun Araromi in the Magodo-Isheri area.

A statement said officials of the Lagos State Building Control Agency during a visit to the area on Thursday discovered that over 100 illegal buildings had already been marked for removal in the waterlogged area.

Residents were reportedly seen paddling canoes to get to their destinations as flood had taken over the road and hundreds of buildings. Read more

The Federal Government and organised labour on Thursday finally agreed on the percentage increase on the consequential adjustment in workers’ salaries as a result of the new minimum wage of N30,000.

As the meeting reached an advanced stage, the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, tweeted from the venue that both parties had reached an agreement, but he did not give details.

The tweet read, “After some delicate negotiations (with both ministers as conciliators), the government and labour have finally reached an agreement on the consequential adjustment of other wages following the implementation of the enhanced minimum wage of N30,000. The Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) has told a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos that it cannot be compelled to make public asset forms submitted by President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, the state governors and other political office holders in the country.

Making the declaration in a fresh notice of appearance and written submission filed before the court, CCB argued that it was not obligated by any laws to make public the assets of public office holders. Read more
