Husband conspires with friends, robs wife (Punch)

A man, Adewale Lukmon, has been arrested for allegedly conspiring with his friends, identified as Bidemi Fatai, Saheed Owolabi and Babatunde Ageele, to rob his wife, Funmilayo, of the sum of N159,000.

PUNCH Metro gathered that both husband and wife lived together at their house on Leadway Estate, Eruwen, Ikorodu, Lagos State.

Our correspondent learnt that on July 23, 2018, Funmilayo, a building contractor, got a business deal of N159,000. Read more

NSCDC arrests 3 suspected vandals in Lagos (Leadership)

Three suspected vandals have been arrested by the Lagos state command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), after they perforated a high-pressure pipeline in Baruwa area of Lagos State.

The pipeline is a major artery that conveys petrol pumped from Atlas Cove, a key receptive facility to other states in the south west and parts of north central. The suspects were arrested Tuesday after community vigilante alerted the Baale of the area, Alh. Khalid Baruwa, who raised alarm and quickly called in the NSCDC and the Police.

According to NSCDC, one suspect was earlier held after others escaped in the early hours of the morning and another two were later picked in the day.

The three suspects are currently being detained at the head office of the NSCDC in Alausa, Ikeja where they are being interrogated in preparation for prosecution. State commander of the NSCDC, Tajudeen Balogun in an interview with Leadership said his men were alerted by the community who quickly swung into action and made the arrests. Read More

Toddler stolen in Lagos, sold in Delta, Anambra, Enugu (Punch)

A two-year-old girl, who was stolen by a trafficking syndicate, has been rescued by operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad of the Lagos State Police Command.

The victim, who was sold for N300,000 to a buyer in Delta State, was reportedly resold to another member of the syndicate in Anambra State, who resold her to a woman in Enugu State.

A police source said the child’s mother, who lived on Oluwale Street, Olodi Apapa, Lagos, had handed her over to some relatives while going out. Read more

Lagos gridlock: Hoodlums attack Vanguard Editor again (Vanguard)

Vanguard’s Political Editor, Mr. Emmanuel Aziken, was Wednesday night attacked on the Mile 2 Orile Road, Lagos, by hoodlums who have hijacked the perennial gridlock caused by trucks along the Oshodi-Apapa expressway.

The hoodlums, numbering five, shattered both windows of his Lexus SUV, inflicting injuries on his left wrist. They made away with some cash and his two phones, from which they made withdrawals from two of his bank accounts.

Aziken, who deliberately stayed late in the office to allow the unending traffic along the route ease, was driving home at about 12 midnight, only to discover a hitch in traffic flow while ascending the Mile 2 bridge to connect the Mile 2-Badagry Expressway. Read more

Man jumps into Lagos Lagoon, dies (Punch)

A yet-to-be-identified middle-aged man has drowned after reportedly jumping into the Lagos Lagoon in the early hours of Tuesday.

Punch Metro gathered that the deceased jumped into the lagoon after trekking on the Third Mainland Bridge inwards Lagos Island.

It was learnt that the man was rescued by some fishermen and officials of the Lagos State Waterways Authority. Read more

NCC raids Lagos in fight against sale of pre-registered SIMs (Guardian)

The Nigerian communications Commission (NCC), has warned Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) against hiring agents that will put them into trouble through the peddling of pre-registered Subscriber Identification Modules (SIM) cards. NCC gave this warning in Lagos, at the weekend, after a three-day raid on some identified hot spots for the sale of pre-registered SIM cards.

The raid led to the arrest of some suspects, including an elderly woman.

The raid came three weeks after The Guardian had reported how MNOs agents were spotted selling pre-registered SIM cards, after several warnings from NCC, in areas including Ikeja, Ikotun, Yaba, Airport road and Abuja, among others.

Head, Enforcement Unit of NCC, Salisu Abdu, addressing journalists, admitted that the menace is huge, ‘’but our fight against pre-registered SIM cards scam is yielding results.’’ Read more

Vigilance group nabs motorcycle snatcher (Punch)

A suspected motorcycle snatcher, Abayomi Ibiyemi, has been nabbed by members of a vigilance group, Onyabo, in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State.

Punch Metro learnt that Ibiyemi, who resided on Sowe Street, Ita-Oluwo, was arrested while speeding away with a stolen motorcycle belonging to one Danlami Adamu.

Adamu said Ibiyemi and two other members of his gang dispossessed him of the motorcycle.

He said, “They were my passengers. One of them slapped me and the other used a gun to hit me at the back. They ordered me to get down and lie flat on the floor, while pointing the gun at me.” Read more

Man jailed 10 years for stabbing own brother to death (PremiumTimes)

An Ikeja High Court on Wednesday sentenced a 28-year-old man, Collins Abakwe, to 10 years in prison for stabbing his younger brother Chibuike Abakwe to death during an argument over a girl.

The judge, Raliat Adebiyi, sentenced the convict, who was arraigned on a charge of murder in 2013, after finding him guilty of a lesser charge of involuntary manslaughter.

The initial charge of murder was commuted to manslaughter, following a plea bargain agreement the convict had with the state, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports. Read more

Truck falls on commercial bus, kills driver (Punch)

A commercial bus driver, Raheem Bolarinwa, has died after a tin-tomato laden truck fell on his bus in the Mushin area of Lagos.

It was gathered that the truck driver, who was driving against traffic, had hit a median while trying to take a U-turn.

The truck reportedly lost its balance and fell on the bus, which was parked at the bus stop. Read more
