Lagos trade fair complex generates N500m revenue in four months (Punch)

The Executive Director, Lagos Trade Fair Complex Management Board, Mrs. Lucy Omosefe-Ajayi, said the board recorded more than N500m in the first quarter of 2018. Omosefe-Ajayi made this known while speaking with newsmen on Friday in Lagos shortly after inauguration of the Lagos Trade Fair Management Board. The executive director said although the management commenced operations on zero budget in 2017, it had been able to generate resources by looking inward. She said that the management was able to achieve the feat through the cooperation of stakeholders (traders) and the implementation of the Executive Order on the Ease of Doing Business. Read more

WHD: Firm donates cleaning tools to Lagos residents (Punch)

In a bid to promote a clean environment and healthy living, Hypo, a leading hygiene solution brand, has donated cleaning tools to some Lagos residents. The initiative, which was in commemoration of the 2018 World Health Day, saw officials of the company partnering with the Lagos State Government to create more awareness on the need for residents to maintain good hygiene and sanitation habits always. During an awareness campaign at the Bariga area of the city, officials of Hypo gave out tools such as hand gloves, rakes, shovels, stick brushes, parkers and waste bags to dozens of residents, who took part in clearing the streets and drainages in the community. Osinbajo represents Nigeria at ECOWAS meeting in Togo (Punch)

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo has travelled to Lome, Togo where he is representing Nigeria at an emergency meeting of leaders of the Economic Community of West African States. According to a statement on Saturday by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr. Laolu Akande, the Vice-President is expected back in the country later in the day. Ecosystem: Unilag will respond to trucks, trailers siege in Lagos — VC (Vanguard)

The Vice Chancellor, University of Lagos, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe has said the Ivory Tower would soon respond to the perennial problem posed by trucks, tankers and other articulated vehicles parking on Lagos roads, adding that the institution would provide solution through evidence-based research and forward it to the governor. Trucks and tankers parking on major Lagos roads such as Western Avenue, Oshodi-Mile 2-Apapa road polluting the airspace have become intractable, causing health harzards to Lagosians and defying solution. Oshodi transport terminals ready by October, says Project Manager (Guardian)

The three terminals under construction at the ongoing Oshodi Transport Interchange will be ready by October this year, the project Manager, Mr Abiodun Otunola, has said. Otunola, a civil engineer with PLANET PROJECTS Construction Company, the firm handling the job, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Lagos that speedy work was ongoing at the site to ensure the projects were delivered at as scheduled. According to him, 70 per cent of the work has been done as the projects consist of three terminals, for interstate, Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) and the third meant to serve the Lagos State entirely. Offa bank robberies sponsored by drug baron —Police (Nation)

The police yesterday named a 29-year-old alleged drug baron as one of the brains behind the April 5 bank robberies in Offa, Kwara State. Adegoke Shogo, described as a mega distributor of Indian hemp, allegedly provided part of the logistics used during the operation that claimed at least 17 lives, including those of nine policemen. Twelve more suspects, including Shogo, have been arrested by the police in connection with the robberies, Force Headquarters spokesman, Jimoh Moshood, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, told reporters in Abuja. The competition, which is in two folds, will commence on Saturday April 21 with over 16 primary schools, while students from eight secondary schools will take their turn on Sunday, April 28. For the past four years, the Zenith bank/Ikoyi Club 1938 inter-school swimming festival has become a talent- hunting ground for swimming coaches from across the country. Last year, Grange School emerged champions at the end of the Inter-school Swimming Gala for Secondary Schools, toping with 240 points after amassing 12 gold, 11 silver and eight bronze medals. Russia says attack on Syria to hurt peace talks – RIA (Reuters)

Russian lawmaker Vladimir Dzhabarov said on Saturday that Russia was likely to call for a meeting of the United Nations Security Council to discuss U.S., British and French air strikes on Syria, RIA news agency reported. “The situation is being analysed right now. Russia will demand a meeting of the U.N. Security Council, I think, for sure,” Dzhabarov, who is the deputy head of Russia’s foreign affairs committee, was quoted by RIA as saying. Overnight, U.S., British and French forces launched more than 100 missiles from ships and manned aircraft, targeting three of Syria’s main chemical weapons facilities. Read more

Slovenia to hold early election on June 3 (Reuters)

Slovenia will hold an early general election on June 3, President Borut Pahor announced on Saturday, a month after centre-left Prime Minister Miro Cerar resigned over a legal obstacle to a government investment project. “On this day I dismiss the parliament and determine June 3 as the date of early parliamentary election,” Pahor told a news conference. The decision to hold the election a week or two earlier than planned comes after the Supreme Court ordered a second referendum on whether the government should proceed with its 1-billion-euro railway project, a move that had led to Cerar’s resignation.
