The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, has warned policemen serving in the state to desist from searching bags, phones and laptops of anyone by the roadside, saying that any policeman indicted for such act would be dealt with.

Giving the warning yesterday at the Command Headquarters, Ikeja, during the parade of some suspects, Odumosu said, “I did not ask any policeman serving in Lagos to stop passers-by and search their phones and laptops, all in the name of looking for Yahoo boys.

Let me warn those policemen who are in the habit of doing so to desist from it or they will be made to face the music squarely when arrested.” Read more

NCS Seme seizes tramadol, others valued at N20m (Nation)

IN its continued fight against smuggling, and to curb illegal activities associated with it, the anti-smuggling unit of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Seme Area Command, has in the last three weeks recorded huge seizures.

The Command in this period seized 782 packets and 630 cards of tramadol all of 50grammes, equivalent to 409, 000 grammes of tramadol, and also 9, 400ml of Amphytamine syrup with Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N4,740, 132.00. They were intercepted along Elejah – Mowo axis of the Command.

The drug seizure forms part of the various other items with a total DPV of N 19, 418, 806. 00 intercepted within the period under review. Read more

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu The Lagos State governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, yesterday charged local government administrators to collaborate more with the state government to deliver democratic dividends to the residents, adding that there must be a synergy between the two arms of government for his administration to achieve its vision of a Greater Lagos. Sanwo-Olu stated this during the swearing-in ceremony of the new Chairman of Ikosi-Isheri Local Council Development Area, Princess Sammy Abolanle Bada, at the Lagos House, Ikeja. A housewife has sued her husband at an Upper Area Court sitting in Jiwa, Abuja, for allegedly not granting her menstrual leave.

The woman (name withheld) who lives in Gwagwa had approached the court to dissolve her three-year-old marriage with her husband. She accused her husband of not granting her menstrual leave as enshrined in the Muslim marriage law, which commands the couple to abstain from sexual intercourse, in addition to excusing the woman from participating in other devotions, such as five daily prayers and fasting. Obaseki, Oshiomhole clash over assassination plot (Nation)

There is a plot to eliminate All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman Adams Oshiomhole, 14 Edo State House of Assembly members-elect alleged on Thursday.

The lawmakers-elect, who were not sworn-in along with their colleagues as part of a fall-out of the crisis in the state APC, accused Governor Godwin Obaseki of establishing a special militia group to eliminate Oshiomhole.

Coronavirus declared global emergency by World Health Organisation (Metro)

Coronavirus has officially been declared a global health emergency by the World Health Organisation. Health experts made the announcement on Thursday evening following a meeting of the WHO emergency committee in Geneva, Switzerland. They confirmed there are now 98 cases in 18 countries outside China, while there have been eight involving human-to-human transmission in Germany, Japan, Vietnam and the US. Suffering with severe social anxiety, he had not spoken to his family for some time and had no money for food. All Errol, 57, had in the cupboards of his home in Radford, Nottingham, were a couple of out-of-date tins of fish. Lewis Hamilton yet to talk to Mercedes over contract (BBC)

Lewis Hamilton says he is yet to start talks with Mercedes over a new contract with the team beyond 2020.

The six-time world champion’s deal with Mercedes runs out at the end of this season and Ferrari have admitted they have held talks with the Briton.
