The Lagos State High Court, on Tuesday, ordered controversial social media activist, Martin Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, to take down what it called defamatory comments and videos on social media about renowned human rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN) and his son, Folarin Falana, popularly called Falz.

Justice M. O. Dawodu, who delivered the ruling in suit no: ID/8584/GCM/2024, ruled that VeryDarkMan’s videos on his social media accounts posted on September 24 linking a crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, a.k.a Bobrisky, to Falz and his father were defamatory and injurious to their public image. The Lagos State High Court has ordered social media critic, Martin Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, to remove defamatory comments and videos about renowned lawyer Femi Falana (SAN) and his son, Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz. Additionally, the court has imposed a N500 million fine for libel.

Justice M. O. Idowu delivered the judgment on Tuesday in suit no: ID/8584/GCM/2024. The case centered around defamatory remarks and videos posted by VeryDarkMan on September 24, 2024, linking the Falana family to controversial internet personality Bobrisky.

The court found the statements to be defamatory and damaging to the public image of both Femi Falana and his son. According to the ruling, the social media critic knew the claims were false but published them with the intent to harm their reputations. Read more

Apologise to Nigerian government, Senate tells Libya (Channels)

Content creator, 26, falls to his death from 630 feet bridge while filming social media post (People)

A 26-year-old content creator from England has died after trying to climb one of Spain’s tallest bridges.

On Sunday, Oct. 13, Talavera de la Reina’s Councillor for Citizen Security, Macarena Muñoz, confirmed the man had fallen while attempting to climb the Castilla-La Mancha bridge, per a release from the Mayor’s office on the city’s website.

According to the post, Muñoz said climbing the 630-feet-high structure was “totally prohibited and which we have reiterated on many occasions cannot be done under any circumstances.”  Read more

Kenya’s High Court rejects move to stop deputy president’s impeachment debate (ABC)

Kenya’s High Court on Tuesday rejected an application by the deputy president’s lawyers to stop the senate from debating an impeachment motion against him after parliament voted to remove him from office last week.

Justice Chacha Mwita ruled that parliament will be allowed to proceed with its constitutional mandate and the court won’t “interfere.”

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s impeachment motion was approved by a 281-44 vote in parliament last week and forwarded to the senate, which will begin hearings on Wednesday. Gachagua is facing impeachment over corruption and other irregularities, including allegations that he supported anti-government protests in June. He denies all the charges against him. Read more

British Novichok attack inquiry: Family of woman killed calls for Putin to take the stand (UPI)

A public inquiry in Britain into the killing of a woman in a suspected Russian nerve agent attack in 2018 heard from her mother Tuesday of the intelligence, humor and kindness of a daughter who “never got to say goodbye to her mom.”

In a statement to the judge-led hearings in Salisbury where Dawn Sturgess, 44, was poisoned with a banned organophosphate agent, known as Novichok, in July 2018, after handling a discarded perfume bottle containing the substance, Caroline Sturgess paid tribute to her daughter and said the family found some comfort from knowing no one else died in the attack.

The incident, in which Sturgess’ partner was also seriously injured — but survived — occurred four months after exiled former Russian military intelligence officer Sergei Skripal and his daughter, Yulia, were the targets of a Novichok attack in the same town that the British government says was ordered by Moscow. The ship, carrying 10 men from Bangladesh and 6 from Egypt, left the island of Lampedusa, and is expected to arrive in Albania on Wednesday.

Ka, a Brooklyn rapper, producer and firefighter, died unexpectedly on Saturday at age 52, according to a post on his Instagram account.

Kaseem Ryan was a member of the group Natural Elements and also served in the New York City fire department (FDNY). He collaborated with Roc Marciano and GZA and earned praise from artists such as Erykah Badu and Yasiin Bey, formerly known as Mos Def, BET reported.

“We kindly ask that the privacy of Ka’s family and loved ones be respected as they grieve this incalculable loss,” the Instagram post reads. “Born and raised in Brownsville, Brooklyn, Ka lived a life of service – to his city, to his community, and to his music. Hezbollah deputy Naim Qassem says group aims to inflict pain on Israel (NewArab)

Hezbollah’s deputy secretary general Naim Qassem said on Tuesday his group has adopted “a new calculation” to inflict pain on Israel, even as he called for a ceasefire.

Israel launched a major offensive against the Iran-backed Hezbollah on 23 September with the aim of allowing residents of northern Israel to return to homes they had been forced to evacuate during a year of cross-border rocket fire from Lebanon.

“The solution is a ceasefire, we are not speaking from a position of weakness,” Qassem said. “If the Israelis do not want that, we will continue,” he added in a broadcast speech. Read more
